Should the US sell Detroit to Canada?

Postby AlexPKeaton on Fri Jul 19, 2013 10:20 am

Seems like Canada wants to buy it.

http://globalnews.ca/news/726916/poll-s ... y-detroit/

US would lose a city that no one has any idea how to fix.
Detroit residents would get free healthcare and a government that might actually help them out.
Canada would get their largest city, a solid hockey team (and 3 other sports teams), and a major US auto corporation.

They would still be the Detroit Lions, but being Canada's only NFL team, would have a huge following.

Yeah Canada would actually gain some cultural icons like a music industry and robocop. Canada currently lacks any cultural significance, as all of the famous Canadians go to hollywood and most people just assume that they are American lol.

Well since bears have been gentrifying the area, it wouldn't be too out of the ordinary for Canadians.

This would somehow lead to the Red Wings complaining about something, I would imagine.

If this isn't a handshake deal, I'm sure the Red Wings will start complaining.

The founding members of KISS should buy it. Lord knows they made a gazillion dollars singing about it.

The US should just put Detroit on waivers and see if another country claims it.

If interested in the topic, you should read "Detroit: An American Autopsy" by Charlie LeDuff. It's more of a series of anecdotes based on his experiences after returning to his hometown after years away. He pretty much doesn't spare anyone the blame, which is kind of refreshing actually.
