Corrected - your original post would indicate that this garbage could catch fire.
if the team turns on coach haley, then can we include the fire from what would be an epic meltdown?
I s'pose. I can't remember a year that I have looked forward to less than this one. I am usually pretty optimistic about the "Steeler way" winning out, but I believe Tomlin has lost that.
This team looks dreadful, and that is with their defense healthy. The O line, which is young, has shown no flashes of brilliance. For all of the accolades heaped on Pouncey - he sure has his own issues pass blocking. The 2 young Tackles take turns getting beat. I have hope with them for the future, but I think this season they take their lumps. I'm hoping that they may emerge as a unit late in the year.
They have no running back and no tight end. They have receivers and Ben, but no consistent time for them to run progressions.
The D needs playmakers. Cortez Allen may be one that can catch a pass. Troy can if he's healthy. They needed the rookie linebacker to be that as well, so we'll see how badly he is injured. Perhaps Woodley can rebound and give us a playmaker at each of the three levels of the secondary.
Like you I am also dreading this season. I have question marks about Tomlin. They have to do with the fact that this team has blown a lot more late leads than they did under Cowher, poor clock management (I don't think this was Cowher's strong suit either), discipline problems on and off the field, his poor challenge record, and poor drafting classes (may not be totally his fault). I'm not exactly ready to fire him yet but I don't think the team is gonna be any good this year. The cliches he spouts off really ring hollow but that doesn't really have anything to do with his coaching ability.
