Footloose, 1 year Later

Postby Rylan on Wed Aug 21, 2013 11:19 am

Since most of you know about my accident, I figured for the one year anniversary of it I would release the pictures that a vocal few have been wanting to see. So, here they are:

Reminder: These are likely considered graphic to some. I will give descriptions before each picture so you have an idea of what you are about to see.

Zoom in and you can much better see the extent of damage. This photo was taken a month post accident, so some healing has occurred in this time frame. A thin layer of plastic covers the wound

This is taken two weeks from the previous picture. A lot of healing has taken place, and the plastic has been removed.

These x-rays show the bone density (notice the bones are "see through") and the rods used to keep everything structurally sound

Another two weeks from the prior open wound picture. This is after a skin transplant, 5 days after the surgery

This is the donor site. Its is graphic and bloody. Enter at your own risk.

A closer look of the donor site.

What the donor site looks like now

The foot all healed up

There you guys have it. The small set of pictures that document the major events of recovery. Everything else was likely extremely boring to document. Any questions and I will likely answer it.

Not worth the risk anymore. Its an absolute blast, but I would rather invest time in other endeavors.

Wow, that was a nasty injury, but seems you healed up pretty well.

I know you hurt yourself riding, but what exactly happened again. That was f'ing crazy.

Hit something awkwardly hidden in the grass causing the quad to bounce and roll onto my leg and slide into a gravel lot before going on its merry way over top me.

After volunteering at a local homeless shelter, you were walking to your car where you were captured by a deranged serial killer whose modus operandi was skinning his victims one layer of skin at the time. He only got a patch off of your foot before you bravely fought back, escaping and eventually aiding the police in the capture, thus making you a hero.

You were an all-pro kicker in the NFL. Before the Pro Bowl game, you were at the beach with some teammates, when a group of sharks begins to attack. You, throwing all regard to your own safety out the window, run screaming into the shallow water. Your only defense is your greatest strength; you begin to kick sharks like the holy spirit resides in you. You kick one so hard that your foot blasts through the front of it's mouth, causing you to snag your foot horribly on the broken toothy remains. Your career is over, but in Hawaii, from that day on, you'll always be "Mano Peku Mea Lanakila".

Damn sharks, always gotta be ruining my fun.

My friends and I came up with numerous stories and back-stories to how it all went down. From chasing kidnappers to skydiving gone wrong where landed drop kicking a bear in the jaw.
