Time waster

Postby Mango Salsa on Wed Aug 21, 2013 4:59 pm

You get a random google street view location and you have to figure out where in the world you are using roadside clues. You click on the map where you think it is and get points based on how close you are. Sometimes it's fairly easy. Sometimes its a dirt road in Africa or Alaska

I didn't realize that you could move along the roadway, I thought you could just do a 360 view of the one position. How long are people spending finding some type of identifying feature?

Yep. Look for signs, which side of the road people are driving on, landmarks, etc. I confess to spending a little too much time "driving" down a long country road with none of those things and no discernible points of reference.

The scoring on this game is complete bollocks. I was 500 km away from two spots and 250 from another. I should get boco points for that. But I missed the other two by forever (Denver to Australia was one), and got like 0 points. It's lame because each kilometer is worth the same number of points. It's linear even though the difference between 250 km and 500 km should get you A LOT more points than the difference between 20,000 km and 20,250 km.

My point is, if you guess Ohio and the answer is Hamburg, you've missed it. You shouldn't get a ton of bonus points because Hamburg happens to be closer to Ohio than another complete miss someone guessed.

Right. When they put you in the middle of an empty road you have to drive a little. The road signs, though, give the continent away immediately.

Yeah, I wish the scoring could be weighted somehow. For instance, if I choose a spot in eastern Russia and it's actually in western Russia I get less points (hypothetically) than choosing Colorado when it's actually Manitoba. I think you should get at least some bonus for getting the country correct. ;)

I had one last night that was from the deck of a cruise ship off the coast of Alaska. Another one was in grassy field with a bunch of people in tents. There was no road and you couldn't move from that spot

5,792 :)

1. I guessed Germany (all I could see was a BMW in what looked like a European area)... it was Sweeden
2. I guessed Peru, it was Australlia LOL (was a dirt road, not much around... random guess)
3. I guessed Nebraska, it was Kentucky
4. I guessed Puerto Rico, it was Brazil
5. I guessed Ohio.. it was outside of Vancouver

I had one where it was two guys playing tennis in a park. You couldn't move from that spot.

Australia (at least the parts in the game) look too much like Colorado/Arizona/Utah/name your Midwest or western state here
