Former smoker saying this... Smokers don't know how bad they smell. They're sense of smell is so muted and they are so used to stale tobacco smell that if you ask them, they might not realize that everyone can smell them from a distance. If you smoke ~1 pack a day, its probably the same as re-applying perfume every hour or so.

The report comes after government plans announced in May this year to ban electronic cigarettes from public places in France.

The idea of these e-cigs is a good one, you just have to regulate the additional chemicals in the liquid, just like the FDA regulates what chemicals are used in food. Also there are hundreds upon hundreds of various types of liquids. They tested 10 and found 3 that came close to a real cigarette on ONE particular chemical, not all of the chemicals. Headline screams of typical sensationalism.
Also this study was not on the second hand effect. Even if 3 out of 10 have 1 of the harmful substances to the level of cigarettes, 0 out of 10 have actual smoke and tar. They did not study if this single chemical among the many that are dangerous in real cigarettes is propagated to the actual vapor that dissipates significantly faster than real smoke does.
