speaking on the bright side, savage has a pretty crappy game but theres no question that the guy has some tools. there are maybe 5 guys in the ncaa that can make the throw to tyler boyd when boyd made that really nice catch. it remains to be seen if hes good enough to get pitt to a bowl game but theres at least something to work with.

we can only hope that winston just played an extraordinary game and this defense gets better.

I think the Defense played a crap game, and a lot of it is on their shoulders, but I think they will bounce back. They may not be dominate, but they will not look as crappy as they did last night.

It amazed me how much time Winston had to throw most of the night. Also I swear at one point FSU ran the same play in a row 3 times and completed it 3 times in a row. I know FSU has some athletes, but guys were running wide open all night long. Just frustrating. Especially when you cant stop a team on 3rd and forever multiple times in one drive.

The announcers pointed out the 3 plays in a row, so your eyes did not deceive you. Just sad.

The good news is that this is the best team Pitt will play all year.

I was pretty fired up after Pitt marched down field and scored that opening TD. If I remember correctly, FSU punted in their next possession after that TD, which had me even more pumped, and then it all came crashing down.

Boyd is the real deal.

I have no idea how Ray Vinopal was awarded a scholarship at Michigan. Next to Greg Gaskins, he is my most hated Pitt foorball player of the recent era. The guy does nothing right.

Malkamaniac wrote:What are the chances recruiting gets better for Pitt because they're in the ACC? Legitimate question, not knowing how conferences make recruiting better.

I think that remains to be seen. The big recruiting angle with conferences is 1) who do you play, and 2) how many of those games will be nationally televised. If they joined the Big 10 I could see that helping, since those are [moderately] local teams with some historical prestige to them.

The ACC has a few historically good football teams - Virginia Tech, Miami, FSU - so games like last night's prime time ESPN game are good for recruiting. Football in the Big East has kind of been a joke since Miami and Virginia Tech left. Notre Dame was the biggest drawing team by a huge margin. WVU was usually pretty good, and every few years one of the other teams would put together a nationally ranked team (Rutgers, Cinci, USF). But really Notre Dame was the only school consistently fawned on by the media.

Where the move to the ACC I think will really do affect recruiting is in basketball. Over the last 10 or so years Pitt has picked a lot of good players from New York City. The big plug was that every year their friends and families would be able to come watch them play at the [nationally televised] Big East championship at Madison Square Garden. The Big East was arguably the best basketball conference. If it wasn't them it was definitely the ACC. So we're going from playing Georgetown, UConn, and Syracuse to playing UNC, Duke, and Syracuse - not really a drop in quality of opponents. Those teams show up on nationally televised ESPN games often too. There is some talk of holding the ACC championship or other games at MSG.

13 points won't win many college football games, but I think the offense has some good things to build from. Savage hasn't played in a real game in years so I think a bit of an adjustment period would be normal. He looks like he has some pretty good options to help him in Boyd and Street. Their scoring drive looked great.

On the other side of the ball the defense should really be embarrassed. Pitt had a pretty well regarded defense last year. They were 100% outmatched.

I think I should stop going to Pitt games in primetime that are nationally televised. FSU thumped us last night, and the game prior to that was Wanny's first game as coach against ND and we got thumped then too. Started out the same way too... score on opening drive... then all downhill after that.

I guess I need to stick to day games haha.

They do it because they can't constantly repaint it from Panthers to Steelers in a single day. The one end already says Pittsburgh, and after the Pitt home schedule is over, they usually paint Steelers in that end if I recall correctly. Either that, or they could leave "Steelers" in the end zone like the Bucs do at Raymond James for USF games, which looks awful and only reminds you of how un-college like the atmosphere is.

I like that the endzones are just slashes. I wish both endzones were like that preferably.

I think Pitt should be happy that it was only 41 points or whatever. There were times when Winston had 6-7 seconds to throw the ball and no defensive backs within 15 yards of his receivers, so I wouldn't give him the Heisman just yet.

I'd like to say that Savage showed some flashes and has the talent, but I could have said that 3 years ago at Rutgers. He only has 11 games left in his college career, needs to play better.

Winston did have all day to throw most of the night, but the few times Pitt did get pressure he still delivered strikes to his wideouts or made plays with his feet.

Last I looked the top topic on a Pitt Football message board was "How'd going cheap on a D-Coordinator work out?" After one game. Against one of the best teams in the country.

As much as a I love Pitt, Pitt fans are some of the worst I have ever seen. Embarrassing, self-hating, entitled, whiny, idiotic yinzers with delusions of grandeur. You'd think they were Flyers' fans.

the replay of this debacle was on channel 188 last night. there were at least two touchdowns where there were at least some sort of miscommunications on defense. on the first td, k'wuan williams seemed like he expected a safety to be defending johnny white guy. on the second johnny white guy td, anthony gonzalez was covering two people. there were more than a few times where it seemed like there were 2 recievers being covered by one guy. that does indeed not speak well for the defensive staff.

Man I'm tempted to buy Pitt/New Mexico tickets on stubhub for a dollar each. I mean even after service fees I won't feel I got ripped off THAT bad even if Pitt gets smoked.
