I assume this is about browns comments about clark. Moron who puts up numbers for the crap steelers talking about a meaningful contributor to super bowl champion teams.

Article about the 1974 draft. The Steelers had the greatest draft in NFL history picking 4 HOFrs. One guy many people likely haven't heard of is CB Jimmy Allen who ended up having a decent career (31 ints). He was traded after a few seasons because he was stuck behind Mel Blount and J T Thomas , a number 1 pick from the prior year. The article mentioned that Donnie Shell was an UFDA that was part of the Steeler rookie class in 1974 but didn't mention that Randy Grossman was also an UFDA rookie who made the team and contributed as a TE. Remarkable talent pickup that year

Dan Rooney's brother Art Jr was head scout. They had no GM; it seemed to be a group of scouts and assistant coaches along with Chuck. All the writers described it as Chuck always having the final say so but he could be convinced by his assistants and scouts to change his mind. Per the stories from back then he wanted to take Robert Newhouse (Cowboys RB pick) but was talked into taking Franco instead.
He also wanted to take Stallworth in the first round but was persuaded that he'd be there later. Stallworth was likely available due to Steeler scouts chicanery. Bill Nunn was maybe the Steelers iconic scout who knew all the black colleges, the campuses and fit in well in those surroundings. He personally scouted Stallworth and had the college film of him. The protocol in those days said that teams were supposed to view such film and pass it along to the next team. The Steelers mysteriously misplaced Stallworth's film and no other team got it.
Chuck was said to be good at delegating and getting others' opinions but he gave the final okay who they'd take.

Ben was asked a question in an interview and gave a standard tame answer that is identical to just about everyone else's opinion on Manziel. I don't see the problem unless you have a problem with him doing interviews in the first place, in which case we'd probably complain that he's a jerk if he didn't talk at all to the media.

I wonder if all the roethlisberger comps for bortles have influenced this.

"I think he's going to be the best one in the group because I see something in his competitiveness, his leadership and I think he's got a lot of upside," Roethlisberger said of Bortles. "If you're a guy that comes out of a smaller school I think you should have a chip on your shoulder. It helps motivate you."

By all accounts a great guy and a major contributor to the Steelers. Still helping out with the draft at age 89

What time are the Pittsburgh Yinzers expected to pick?
I don't really want to commit to watch the draft for very long.

When I was younger I loved the draft. I'd spend all weekend watching the draft. Now its just a big "meh" to me. This primetime nonsense just doesn't jive for me. The first round tonight doesn't start until 8 and will probably last till after midnight. I'll stick it out until the Steelers pick and then hit the sack. The shenanigans start at 7 on Friday, but I have better things to do and/or watch on a Friday night than the draft. By Saturday I don't care anymore.

TL;DR: Goddell ruins everything I like.

I agree 100%. I used to plan around the draft. Take off work just to sit around all day, sit behind my laptop and watch the draft.

To be honest, my consumption of football, both pro and college, went down considerably when they changed the draft format. This wasn't the main factor, but it was a contributor.

I know we all complain about the draft now. I mean who didn't like an excuse to sit on their couch for a weekend and watch Mel Kiper and the talking heads talk while you drank beer.....it was awesome.

That being said, I think we are in the minority, because the NFL has gotten monster ratings for the draft now that is in primetime, I don't see them going away from it anytime soon.

I'm not saying it wasn't a smart fiscal move to commercialize and sell a little bit more of the soul of the game for the almighty advertising and television dollar, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

I guess we'll see what kind of ratings they get this year. The two week delay seems to have pissed everyone off. I read yesterday that they are discussing an additional one or two week push back next year to put the draft more toward the end of May. Shoot me.
