Played out of control and tried to do too much.
in this gentleman's opinion, the rebounding sucked and the 3 point defense sucked becuase by and large the pitt super panthers played out of control. it was a bummer to see the big stage get to them like that.
For sure. As far as rebounding goes, Pitt just doesn't have the paint presence they traditionally have. Zanna isn't a center and Michael Young, while impressive at times, doesn't really provide a physical presence in the paint (he was another player who forced way too much last night, especially early), and the bench is basically barren. Those issues would have been avoided if Steven Adams was still here (Adams at center, Zanna to power forward, Young to impact player off the bench) or if Uchebo didn't have glass knees.
The three point defense was very frustrating. At least two of Andre Dawkins' three pointers were wide open attempts that resulted from Cameron Wright running around like a chicken with his head cut off.
If Pitt had any kind of scoring touch early they could have been up double digits by the midway mark of the first half. Instead they played sloppy, forced shots, let Duke hang around, and then just withered midway through the second half. It sucks, but Pitt is a very young team and hopefully the game will serve as a good learning experience.
