I'd stop eating and tell the server and leave it up to them if they will replace it or not. Not that I'm an expert at finding hair in food, but most places seem to be accomodating as long as you don't make a scene.

I've seen places where they apologize and bring you a new one. I've seen places not bring you a new one but they will knock off anywhere from half to the full price of the item, which is usually after you decline a replacement. I've also seen where they replaced the food and knocked a portion of the price off the bill. Basically treat the server right and they'll keep you happy.

That said, there's a few Applebee's and a Chili's that I won't go back to anytime soon since it has happened multiple times at the same restaurant.

I always thought the Seinfeld episode where Jerry finds a hair in his carrot cake and ends his vomitless streak to be completely ridiculous.

It wasn't the hair that caused him to vomit though, it was the cookie.

I'd complain and demand a fresh plate. I know that worse things happen to food in commercial kitchens, and may in fact happen to my replacement plate. But it's the principle of the thing. I don't want to eat Meg's hair pie.

I found what resembled a pubic hair in rice pilaf that was under shrimp skewers at red lobster. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't pay much mind since it was the end of the meal and rice pilaf isn't a big thing for me. But since it looked like a pube and nobody was happy with their meals at my table, I brought it to the servers attention and the manager comped us/apologized.

Admittedly I don't remember the details of the episode.

This is almost exclusively a manager call... Servers generally don't have the power to take prices off the machine without a managers key (swipe) approving it.

Was the hair ever in the garbage before it made its way into the food?

Also, random comment: The word "pubes" has two syllables, not one. It's pyoo-beez, not pyoobs.

The server probably dipped his (her?) pubes in the garbage.

True, but you don't think a server has a hand in recommending what should be done?

If you are a server and you have a loudmouth customer who thinks they are entitled to the world and a customer with good manners who merely points out the hair, which one would you try to help out knowing that your tip is probably based off of it?
