new furnace time. We don't have a particularly large home and we are trying to decide between 2 stage with a variable speed blower or just the single stage that turns on and blasts at 100% and then shuts off (which is what we have now). Either option is going to be an upgrade to our current furnace that's holding on by a thread. I don't know much besides what they are and the $500 difference. Does anyone know anything about furnaces and does it matter if we have a smaller house? We are also putting in an air conditioner...

If you have a smaller house you don't need as powerful of a furnace as a bigger house. I have a variable furnace and it keeps the house warmer than our old unit and also uses less electricity.
