Admin just got a redirect ad

Postby Pavel Bure on Tue Jan 07, 2014 7:33 pm

That took me one of those pages that says something to effect of, "Problem with windows 7 click to fix"

Has anyone else got this? I should have wrote down the page before clicking away.

The popup ads are super annoying. Especially the one that throws an alert box when you try to close it. Does anyone really click that crap? :face:

I've tolerated the pop ups for some time. But the ones I've seen recently resemble the virus-ridden ads I get when I go to streaming websites.

I can handle banner ads all day, but I agree with TheHammer regarding the popups. They're bush league.

not mad, just saying. ads are a revenue generator for the site. are the bad ones irritating? yes. If you get a bad one and report it to admin, it will be removed.

I could care less about the ads. It's the ads that lead to spyware and other viruses that are bush league.

And I'm not talking about the admin or the site being bushleague, just that whatever service (Google?) that is issuing these ads are doing a poor job.

So clicking on links at LGP is redirecting you away from LGP to another site completely? That sounds like malware.

Yes, it has happened to me when clicking on "Board Index" and "NHR SubForum"... Do you mean malware on my end?

I don't think that's fair. Particularly invasive ads may drive away users, resulting in a net loss of revenue. If a number of Admin's users find this off-putting, then he may chose to change the policy. I think he'd want this information.

Yeah I don't think it's malware on my end because it doesn't happen on any other site

"pop up ads are bush league" is the statement I was responding to. If certain pop-up ads are causing malware, they will be deleted when you bring them to Admin's attention.

It might be an exploit for the ad server/company used by LGP, which is why you only see it when you visit this site even tho the malware is on your machine.

I'd agree if I was the only one experiencing the issue. But when multiple people report the same thing it's more likely to be the site than all of us having the same malware.

I know Admin will probably delete them. My comment was more on the ad-company letting them go through.

Rogue ads definitely slip through ad companies from time-to-time. If you see one definitely let me know.

I still would run a thorough malware scan on your machine just to be sure it's not on your end.

Has anyone had a redirect this afternoon?

Normally, I would assume this but it happens on my work machines. I know for sure what's going on with those.
