Pens Flight Tracking

Postby Shyster on Wed Jan 08, 2014 9:18 pm

While listening to the radio for the Canucks game last night, Phil Bourque mentioned that the Pens had an extra-long travel time to get to Vancouver. Curious, I wondered if I could find out what sort of flight they were on. Thanks to Google and the aviation fanboys at airliners.net, I found out that the charter the Penguins fly is always called (at least for this season) Miami Air International Flight 392 (call sign BISCAYNE 392 or BSK392). So if you punch that into a site like FightAware.com, you can see them travel:

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/BSK392

For example, the Pens left Vancouver early this morning at 2:42 Eastern time and arrived in Edmonton at 3:54.

I actually use that site all the time when family or friends are traveling. It's got a lot of fun info for aviation nerds like me, but I'm sure it seems seriously OCD to the uninitiated.

Who was the stalker that was trying to see what was going on at Mario's after the cup win? Jasmine maybe? This is lazy and passive. Not remotely stalkerish.

Track it during days leading up to the trade deadline to see if it goes to Newark.

A few years ago there was an insider trading ring that was blown up.

Turns out one of the steps was to try tracking who was coming into the NYC area via private jet, Bud Fox-Larry Wildman style.

An article I read on it said that instead of hanging out at airports (as was done in the scandal) you could easily look up corporate jets, their call signs, and flight paths online.

In the summer I will sit out on the back porch and try to figure out where the planes overhead are going with flightaware.

Bet None of you other airplane geeks can top that.
