Beatles 50th Anniversary Thread

I didn't know there was a D.C. Djay that jumped the gun and played unauthorized release of a Beatles record. I remember hearing them in January 1964 on a NY station by a disc jockey who went by the air name of cousin Brucie. I was a HS sophomore; it was a real exciting music time. I remember a lot of girls having Beatles pictures taped up on the inside of their lockers. I had a cheap pocket size transistor radio and it seemed like every third song played was a Beatles record.

Their first album was released in March 63. Their first single in 61.

But you can never have enough Beatles threads.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWO5x91sqj0 vids from the beatles arrival at Idelwild airport... and it all begins.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNfy6s8JMHU after the ed sullivan show, at the peppermint lounge with the ronnettes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murray_the_K in the beatles anthology~ best Beatle history~ George Martin talks about the beatles releases on a VJ disc. Didn't do much here. Urban myth, Ed Sullivan heard rumblings and wanted to meet them for his show. Lots of money spent on publicity to get folks at the NYC airport, news, magazines.

Did any one of them love being a Beatle as much as those that loved the Beatles?

Does that make sense?

Completely uninformed observation, but I think Ringo did. I think he still does.

I can agree they are talented musicians, but they do nothing for me. Unlike Nirvana who both suck and have no talent.

Better? :-)

I'm talking about in the U.S. They'd appeared in Germany, replaced a drummer and were wildly popular in Great Britain before anyone heard of them here. The first song hitting radio here was after quite a few hits in Britain.
