One street from my house last night, at an intersection I have to go thru every time I leave, there was a carjacking around 9 pm last night. The description of the perp went as follows

The driver described the suspect as a black woman in her 40s or 50s, about 5-foot-3 or 5-4, a chunky build, and a short aftro hair style. Police say she was missing two front teeth and was wearing a pink t-shirt with dark shorts and flip flops.
The driver also told police they believed the robber was drunk.

I might have flipped past it 2-3x, watched for a total of a minute.

How do they determine who wins in a category? Amount of time on Sportscenter? A vote among the SC anchors?

The boss is off for the week, so I've witnessed:

Monday: "Oh, I'm leaving at 3 today to get some work done on my car."
Tuesday: "Oh, I have a terrible headache and need to leave (at 1:30)."
Wednesday: "Can you cover for me on that issue, because I'm not feeling well today and won't be coming in."
Thursday: "Oh, I had to get an allergy shot (and that's why I was 1.5 hours late)."

That's all from the same same person.

My department have a pretty loose policy about not being charged for sick days, so if you actually came in and make an effort, no one really has to worry about being charged with that time.

I have zero confidence that she will bother to use the sick day for Wednesday; forget about the other three days.

Another colleague and I were discussing this and it really is unfair to people in other departments. I know someone worked 7:15-6:00 yesterday to make up some hours, because she has 5 month and 4 year old daughters. They get sick and she just has to take off, on occasion. The fact that there are multiple standards within one larger group is not good.

My boss seems too chicken to deal with the issue of this one particular person (and she's certainly at fault for creating a lax system)......but it seems like someone should get canned.

My company is pretty lenient about letting us go into the negative (or borrowing against) paid time off. With 1 vehicle and a toddler I've had to use about 20 hours of paid time off in the last 3 weeks. I'm now at 1 hour remaining and if something happens on a Thursday or Friday (kid sick, accident, emergency of any kind, etc.) I will have to use some and go negative.

My company gives us 3 weeks paid vacation and a week PTO(sick time). You can use it before you accrue it, but if you leave the company before its accrued then you obviously have to pay it back. They are pretty good about letting people make time up if they don't want to use their time and its an emergency. Thankfully no one has abused the policy as of yet.

right now I get 3 weeks vacay, and 7 personal days.

In 2016 I get a 4th week, and then will have to wait till i'm like 50 for the prestigious 5th week. I should really just save some money and air b and b january 2016 in key west.

Wow...we have to accrue ours. Only 16 hours (2 days) are given at the beginning of the year. You get 1 month PTO a year? That's awesome! Even if I accrued for an entire year and didn't take a single hour off I would only have 14 days of PTO on December 31st.

Yeah, we accrue ours too. 6.76 hours of PTO every 2 weeks, which amounts to 22 days PTO per year (or 4.5 weeks). We also get two floating holidays, so altogether that ends up right around 5 weeks vacay.

They just introduced it a couple of years ago....I don't really understand the point of the distinction. I know the floating holidays don't carry over, so I typically use them first before I ever start using PTO. It is in addition to the other holidays, but we only get the six "big ones" off.

I hate my wifes vacation system. She works for a small law firm with an outsourced payroll company, so they give 15 days of leave a year but it comes on January 1st. Usually means that by Christmas she's working weekends and the day after Thanksgiving to piece together vacation time. It also means she'll never have more than 15 days on the books. I accrue 4.83 hours per pay period. Much nicer to have it rolling instead of bulk.

I have a floating holiday every quarter, and then 7 other Federal holidays. The catch is that since I work in an office with military and they're gone every single holiday for multiple days I either have to take my float on the actual holiday or justify working in an empty office. I can usually do the latter, but it's annoying.

I have 3 weeks paid vacation, 10 holidays and 2 personal days. Also, since this is my 15th year at my company, I was awared a "recognition day", which is an extra day of vacation.

We have the concept of "floating holiday", because in technology there are time you work on holidays. Say I work Thanksgiving. I take the following Monday off instead. That's a "floating holiday". Saves you from burning a vacation day.

I get 26 days a year with 12 years in. 3 floaters on top of that in lieu of MLK, Presidents Day and Veterans Day. It's just one bucket of PTO though, any sick time comes out of that.
