Chili dogs are Xanadu but impractical for home consumption. So 9 out of 10 times, it's mustard and onion.

I applaud ketchup being excluded.

always used to be just a ketchup guy (sometimes chilli and cheese), then after visiting Chicago and indulging, I like to load it up

heavenly

Also, Jims hot dogs in west mifflin has a pretty killer sauce. My uncle spent years trying to replicate it and came up with something special. At family reunions he always makes me a big batch.

I usually get the Texas Dog from Franktuary -Chili, cheese and jalapenos.

But if I'm at a ball game it's just plain mustard. Brown or spicy preferred, yellow if they don't have either. Nothing else. Don't like relish on hot dogs, and I can't eat raw onions.

I feel like there should be a distinction between "gourmet" or restaurant style hot dogs, and cookout/tailgate hot dogs. It's not like you should expect someone to lay out chili and nacho cheese at their cookout as a hot dog standard.

Chili dogs are amazing, but more of an entity of their own.

Must have mustard

If onion is available it's a plus

Chili only if it's from Texas hotdogs (58th st better than downtown)

No cheese. Never ketchup though I fully don't support it not being in the list

Cooked over a fire the balancing risk must be taken to toast the bun

cheese is tethered to chili, so it gets my vote.

if you're putting cheese on a dog without chili, you are a weirdo.

I need to find this near Pittsburgh. Had Texas Hots two days in a row at 4 Sons in Kane and have been craving another since.

I'm heading up there next week for some texas hots. The one in Jamestown, NY is also quite nice and has a super pack (18 for $18). If I play my cards right I may hit up the NY one the next night. Could be a fabulous weeekend

I melted cheese on a hotdog once. My grandfather got really upset if you wasted food. I was watching freddy kruger where he turned a girl into a bug. It looked just like the gooey cheese on my hotdog. I threw it away and got in trouble

I like loading the toppings on. My top selection is:

- ketchup, mustard, onion, and relish

If there is kraut, I like that as well, but not with anything else.

Tradionally i need Ketchup Mustard Onion Relish.

My fav. off the wall toppings. BBQ, onion with a slice of cheese on top, melted under the broiler for a min. melting the cheese but toasting the bun.

At home Mom and Dad used to make us Jims hotdogs, some place in west mifflin they have a mixure of Ket. must. mayo and about 4 other things and they toast them in the oven and add onions on top. Makes me feel like a kid when i eat them.

I like chili with shredded cheese to be fair. :pop: Chili should be a staple at a winter tailgate.

That's how Franktuary tops their dogs. No nacho cheese sauce. Real shredded cheese.

When they do have cheese sauce, it's made from scratch with actual cheese.
