Pittsburgh sports bars

Postby Nibs on Thu Jan 30, 2014 2:34 am

I'm visiting Pittsburgh this weekend from Canada to watch the game on Monday, just wondering if theirs any good sports bars to watch the super bowl. A big place with a lot of TV's would be ideal, so I don't have to be there 2 hours before the game to make sure I get seats. We are in our late 20's so a live atmosphere with a younger crowd would be cool. I appreciate any advice.

The Rivers Casino is always nice, Grille 36 on the North Shore also comes to mind.

Ace's and duces has specials all night in to the morning. They are near the arena as well.

No, don't really look in to Ace's and duces.

I never really though of Pittsburgh as having any real sports bars. There doesn't seem to be any places that have sports on 24/7. Most places will have the Pens/Steelers/Bucs on at game time, but I do not consider that a "sports bar"

Hough's in Greenfield is a good place to watch Pens games as they have a number of tvs and they pull down a big screen and project the game to about 8+ feet wide.

When I went to skate with the greats there were a couple kind folks out arguing over something. I'm sure it was settled and they went back in to buy each other a drink, but I wasn't sticking around.

I didn't care for blue line grille, thought the food was pricey and not good.

I had the same experience there was not impressed with the food or prices. I joined a party late and the waitress didn't even notice I was there for a half hour to 45 minutes.

Primanti Bros isn't really a sports bar, but they have big flat screens everywhere, food and drink specials during the game, and you'll always know when the Pens score.

We went there before the Rumble, and I didn't think it was that bad. The service was a little slow initially because of an obnoxious table of wrestling marks, but the prices weren't too bad. 5 beers and a chorizo quesadilla for $25 I think?

you must've gotten a free beer or 2. Labatts were $4 IIRC and they seemed to be about a 14 oz glass.

What happens in the random thread stays in the random thread.

There a few decent places in the South Side for game watching, like Mario's (not Lemieux) but they won't fit under your "don't wanna have to get there early" criteria -- they're always usually pretty packed, though Monday night might not be too bad. Then again, who am I kidding. It'll be a ****show.

Any place if you want to be sitting you'd probably have to get there a little early, regardless of location.

They're heading down there on a Sunday, so I think they're gonna be very packed regardless of location. I ended up at Fatheads last year and was able to snag a seat like 15 minutes before kickoff.

But I think you're gonna run into that everywhere. Either you're gonna have to wait for a table or they're gonna have to stand near the bar and wait for a spot or two to open.
