I remain positive with the Brewers' poor play of late and the major injuries to Cards and Reds players.

Losses like today's are easier to stomach if we could quit giving away division games like Oprah gives her audience cars.

Last year, the division was insanely competitive, and the Pirates played very well, but had to settle for the second WC because of the ridiculous Reds and Cards. This year, the division is largely mediocre, and the Pirates have crapped the bed more times than I can count.

The Pirates had the first Wild Card spot last year, they were 4 games ahead of the Reds.

I wouldn't when the injury to cole looms large, the starting staff smoldering tirefire, and the apparent black holes in the bullpen, 1B, and utility depth.
They aren't a playoff team at this stage of the season and it doesn't look like any sunshine on the horizon. They are a middle of the road, 5 games over, 5 games under type of team.

The 2014 Steelers have a better chance to win a championship and I'm completely bearish on them.

My apologies, but you get what I mean. No one blamed them for not catching the Cards last year, just sucks that they've regressed so much and the division seems ripe for the taking.

How is Justin Morneau in a HR derby?
The ASG and festivities are a joke.

It's still the best ASG there is, in this man's opinion

As far as the game itself, I agree. The home-field advantage thing is obviously hokey, but I like to think it actually encourages the teams to play hard (and with baseball, playing hard is reasonable in terms of injury risk). The Pro Bowl is a total farce, of course. The NBA all-star show is meaningless except for the skills competition, same for the NHL, but I enjoy both of those activities.

Can't argue. Maybe it's because baseball is my favorite sport, but it's the one ASG that I actually make time to watch, and enjoy watching. The others ones are all turrible

If by mediocre you mean arguably best division in baseball. The only other divisions that look competitive are the AL East and AL West. The west has two terrible teams and the AL east is set up like the NL Central, but with one less competitive team.

It just seems like such an easy fix to me... Take the top 5 HR leaders on each league's all-star team

AL:
1. Jose Abreu
2. Nelson Cruz
3. Edwin Encarnacion
4. Mike Trout
5. Brandon Moss

NL:
1. Troy Tulowitzki
2. Giancarlo Stanton
3. Anthony Rizzo
4. Todd Frazier
5. Andrew McCutchen

Boom / Done

Morneau is liked in Minnesota, gives the home crowd someone to root for.

Looking at Tony Sanchez's AAA offensive numbers over his career:

612ab 49doubles 24hr 70bb 146k .197iso 796ops

I still expect him to be an average or better defensive catcher but those are numbers that could have gotten him a call up as a first baseman here over the last however many years

I often wonder if things like NHL skills / NBA skills / HR derby got worse or if I just got older...

I remember watching these shows (in reruns folks. Reruns!) back when I was younger:

Pretty hard to believe they could make a regular TV show out of it, although I'm sure ESPN could make it work.

They could very easily do it in the offseason, probably in one afternoon.
