Dress Shoes

Postby Kraftster on Mon Jul 07, 2014 9:35 pm

Purchased some new dress shoes this evening, and I figure nice dress shoes purchases are serious enough to merit a dedicated LGP thread.

My "nice" brown and black shoes for the past five years have been a couple of Allen Edmonds pairs I bought at Gordon's in the Waterfront. I love those shoes, but I delayed getting my browns resoled and they are pretty tattered at this point. My blacks are a bit more formal (the AE Park Avenue), so I wear them less, and they have held up tremendously. Both are extremely comfortable.

Tonight I went with a pair of brown Magnanni Colos over the To Boot New York Felix Plain Toe. The shoes look very similar and are only $25 difference in price, so I went strictly based upon in-store feel. Both run a half size big, and the Magnannis felt considerably more comfortable on my feet. The TBNYs felt wider, so might be better for those with wider feet.

Nordstrom didn't really have any good Allen Edmonds options, and I wanted a pair before I leave for a business trip tomorrow. Hopefully I don't regret deviating from what I know.

What are you guys rocking?

Got a couple pairs of nice Clarks with no laces. 1 brown 1 black. Dumb choice, as my instep is high at an elite level. My foot is crammed into those things. Need a new pair of browns like now. Probably will go Clarks again.

This might be my new favorite thread. My everyday shoes are a nice pair of Magnanni Naldos in cinnamon. Super comfortable and lightweight. I wore them for about 3 days before I decided to buy a second pair for when the first pair wore out. It was probably the best decision of my life.

I'm rather partial to the cap toe Oxford.

Brown - Clarks 'Olaf'. As columbia said, Clarks are so comfortable.

Black - Rockport Oxfords and Florsheim Wingtips.

I don't enjoy clothes or shoes whatsoever. As far as clothing designers go, I might as well be a different species, based on my body. Nothing fits appropriately. Because of this, I neglect my wardrobe, shoes included. My brown shoes are down right embarrassing. And I never polish any of my dress shoes. My next job will probably require that I give a crap about what I wear. I'll enjoy being a scrub as long as I can.

As an aside, I really wish the Clarks desert boots had three eyelets instead of two. Comfortable as slippers, but I have constantly re-tie them.

I call them hard shoes and luckily rarely have to wear them. Bare feat for work is :thumb:.

A friend just teased me last week for saying "dress shoes", no idea what else you're supposed to call them.

I've had something itching at the back of my mind for a while. Is there any use for the high gloss dress shoes I used in the military now that I'm out? I have them in oxford and a pair of chukka that I only wore once.

Right now i have a pair of dark brown John Varvatos wing tip oxfords that are amazing, a light brown pair of steve madden wing tip oxfords that i got for $29, and a pair of black loafers with a strap that are like from aldo or something.

I'm looking to step up my black shoes pretty soon here.

Suggestions? The allen edmonds are amazing but i'm not a fan of spending more than about $150 on shoes (though the varvatos ran me around 180)

I hate clarks. Had a brown pair of loafers that i wore for like 6 months probably 2x a week before they were unwearable because they were so stretched out.

I like Cole Haan for the ~$150 price point. They might run you a little more than that.

Honestly, though, the AE Park Avenue black are such a classy look and mine have lasted forever. Going on almost 6 years. I could stand to have them re-soled soon, but I bet I get 10 years out of them in the end. Like I said, though, I don't see them as an everyday shoe, so that obviously helps for lifespan. If you get 10 years, $350 is nothing.
