Really wanted to go, but was afraid of playoff interferences way back when they went on sale. I almost already screwed things up by buying Alice in Chains tix.... luckily their show at the Benedum didn't interfere. That fulfills my 90s rock this week.

How was AIC and did they translate well in the Benedum?

It was very good, better than I was expecting going in. I'm a big 90s rock nerd (I won't just limit that to grunge); AIC have always been on the heavy side of my music preference (I'm more up straight rock/punk - Pearl Jammy, preference), but they were great. I was afraid they'd be playing a ton of newer stuff, but they played almost all the big hits also. As far as the Benedum venue, it was cool.... we had seats center stage at the front of the mid-tier balcony. During songs, the sound was good, though it was tough to make out what the guys were saying between songs. It reminded me of seeing some rock shows at the Carnegie Music Hall - Oakland and Homestead, but a tad bigger.

Here's Mervis's review from the PG:

Just listened to a little bit of this for the first time...ehh.

Going to give the new national a first time listen today. The new Vampire Weekend is really good, I know why people would snub their nose at that...but i recommend it.

I can't remember the last new band that i've listened to. When I say new, I mean came about in the last 5 years. I actually don't think I listen to anyoen that hasn't been around for at least a decade...other than some electronic artists.

What Kills stuff do you like best? I might be able to recommend a couple along those lines.

Midnight Boom is still my favorite, but I liked the new album as well. I'd check out anything similar to any of their stuff.

I’d check out Mynabirds, f/f duo. Tracks Wolf Mother and Generals off of the GENERALS album. But I’d avoid their first album. Its closest to maybe Last Goodbye from The Kills (BP) but without even that much edge for the most part.

Blood Red Shoes is a m/f duo with an overall sound similar to Blood Pressures, but the guy does the majority of the singing. Album Fire Like This (songs Heartsink, Light it Up, Keeping it close). Album In Time to Voices (songs Down Here in the Dark, Cold).

YACHT is more electro than the Kills but probably closest to Midnight Boom. Anything off of Sahngri-La. Dystopia is probably one of my favorite singles in the past couple years, its instantly catchy.

Shilpa Ray & Her Happy Hookers is punkier than the Kills but probably in the same ballpark. Only one album, Teenage and Torture. Check out Venus Shaver, Liquidation Sale, Erotolepsy.

Soundgarden at Stage AE.....

Very good show and the bands was in excellent form. Definitely not sold out and im pretty sure we got a 24 song set. Bass player apparently had something thrown on him and was very upset.

I only heard the single Get Lucky and Giorgio by Moroder. I like it in the same way I like Tarantino movies.

I like Giorgio Moroder (the person), but not necessarily Daftpunk.
