pulling this from the political thread...

yes sir. The video and her dancing is very top notch. Kids heard it on the radio and did their own dance to it, I admittingly looked up what the song was (very unusual for me to do with new music) and discovered the video. After a hearing it a few times, it was catchy enough to stick with me. Looked up the fellow who sings it and found out he put out a few R&B albums that sound more or less like old school R&B/soul. Gotta say, I'm a fan of what I've heard. Even more importantly, the wife enjoys the soothing soul sound of Mr. Robin Thicke which leads to... well... family message board.. but yeah, I got the dance moves down for his stuff. He was on Howard Stern this week as well, seems like a cool guy (as if being Allen Thickes son wasn't cool enough). He had a great story of Wayne Gretsky coming to is house when he was 13 and getting to see Janet naked in the hot tub.

Robin Thicke's been a respected pop songwriter and soul/R&B guy for probably 10+ plus years, so I'm seriously torn on this megastardom that's befallen him. You love to see a guy like that finally break through to the pop mainstream, but I wish it hadn't been when he consciously decided to dumb down his music for the masses. At the same time, the song itself is undoubtedly catchy and I prefer it to 95% of the music on pop radio at the moment.

He mentioned in the interview after 4 or 5 personal albums (that never really sold, but were reviewed highly), he wanted to have some fun and wrote that blurred lines song in an hour. Did he write a lot of stuff for other people?

Off the top of my head, I know he wrote a good bit of Christina Aguilera's first album and some decent hits for Brandy and Mya. He's also sang the hook on a number of hip hop songs over the last five or so years. The dude has had a legit presence in the urban music scene for a long time, so I'm definitely not surprised to finally see him find crossover success.

Jack White's wife gets retraining order against him. Here's the interesting part:

According to the restraining order, Elson alleges that White went so far as to demand she request the kids be pulled from a class at their private school, because he didn't want them attending class with the child of another entertainer he believes "ripped off" his music. In a similar incident, the report also claims that an angered White harassed Elson for attending the wedding of a second "rival musician," who he believes also "ripped off" his music, and who is not named in the order.

Jack White and most rock musicians make their living off of "ripping off" other's music.

He's obvioulsy crazy. But that doesn't make White Blood Cells any less of an amazing album.

I do like that kind of music. I like The Black Keys and such. Jack White has always just come across as a pretentious little **** to me. Much like with a hot girl, a crap personality can turn me off of whatever it is they're trying to convey, be it a rockin' body or a jolly jingle on the keyboard.

That's all well and fine, but most don't come across that way to me. Just...him as a whole, bothers me. How he looks, his stupid voice, just bad. Bad bad bad.

But I dislike many bands that people seem to love. Dave Matthews, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones...all total garbage IMO.

It's more of having one too many of these conversations in my life:

Me: "Yeah, I just really don't like (insert band name). I respect their talent, I just don't enjoy their sound.
Them: HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE (BLARGITY BLARGH)?! THEY PAVED THE WAY FOR HERPING YOUR DERP IN MUSIC AND RESHAPED THE ENTIRE MUSIC WORLD FOREVER!!
Me: Right, I get that, and respect that. It doesn't mean I personally have to enjoy them.
Them: YOU CLEARLY HAVE NO TASTE IN MUSIC OH MY GOD (arms rocket off body)

Add to that list Led Zepplin, never liked them either. I never enjoyed these bands sounds, but as soon as someone FLIPS for having a difference of opinion then it totally turns me off.

There's a difference between not liking them and stating they are total garbage.

That said, I apologize.

I know, but to me, music opinion is just that; opinion. It's implied when you comment on music you're basing it on what the music makes you feel, think, experience, etc. You can't speak on behalf of anybody else but yourself. So I apologize as well, next time I'll put IMO beforehand.
