Laptop question

The socket where I plug the cord into my laptop became dislodged and will not accept electrical current anymore. Is this something than can be cheaply repaired or should I get a new laptop? Buying a battery charger for a Dell Latitude costs $165 so a new laptop may be almost as cheap.

The same thing happened to me with a Toshiba laptop. At the time it was about 3 years old and a local shop quoted me $200 to fix it. I junked it.
