Seriously, I have to agree with the sentiment that I'm not surprised either. They made no moves to upgrade this off-season, but with that being said who can blame them? They were going off of a deep playoff run, when nobody expected them to contend at all. Seeing them in the Conference Finals was a surprise.

The Brind'Amour contract is really hurting them as well. Not to mention what they are paying Eric Staal. When you are paying $15m+ for Brind'Amour, Whitney, Cole, Cullen, and Walker right now, you're going to not do that great. They should trade Whitney while they can and see if anyone wants Brind'Amour as well.

He has a name that was once great and a bad contract that overpays him annually. He'd fit right in with the RagsOf course, he's only overpaid by a million or so and his cap hit's still relatively low so they might have to pass.

The only team where he'd be useful would be a young team like Colorado. I used to be a big fan of Brindy's game but he has really looked bad the past two years.

Even when his offense slowed down he was still one of the best defensive forwards in the league. Now he's just a liability on both ends of the rink.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -Carolina goaltender Cam Ward was helped off the ice in the first period of the Hurricanes' game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Ward knelt for a couple of minutes on the ice before he was attended to by team trainers. As he was being helped off, drops of blood hit the ice.
