Canes Lose Again

10 straight in a row, and with this last loss they replace Toronto on the floor of the basement.

Fire PM!

That'd be 3 coaches in less than 2 years

Canes need to upgrade their roster. I don't know what a coaching change would do when they rely so much on a right now very banged-up Staal and Cam Ward. The departures of Seidenberg and Babchuk seem to have left a void on the blueline in terms of generating offense, something the Canes also rely a lot upon in order to sustain offensive pressure.

Canes are also the oldest team in the NHL and I think that's become a problem to start this season. Old guys too tired after their long post-season a few months ago :D

somehow they only have 1.3 in cap space. I looked down their roster and there's not much there that I'm super impressed with.

Honestly, I'm not surprised. I wasn't impressed at all with their offseason moves - they did nothing to address why they were slaughtered in the ECF by the Pens (ie. they're still completely depending on Staal & Ward to carry the entire team).

The canes are a hardworking team that has limited offensive talent. I am not in love with their defense at all either. The fact that the Devils, and more shockingly, the Bruines lost to them last year in the playoffs just shows you that anything can happen in a short series...

Maurice will be fired at the beginning of Dec and Laviolette will be hired back in his place.

  Or MT.

Seriously, I have to agree with the sentiment that I'm not surprised either. They made no moves to upgrade this off-season, but with that being said who can blame them? They were going off of a deep playoff run, when nobody expected them to contend at all. Seeing them in the Conference Finals was a surprise.

When you have Cam Ward, you can play beyond your means in the playoffs. Also, Seidenberg was a beast for them in the Bruins series. The Brind'Amour contract is really hurting them as well. Not to mention what they are paying Eric Staal. When you are paying $15m+ for Brind'Amour, Whitney, Cole, Cullen, and Walker right now, you're going to not do that great. They should trade Whitney while they can and see if anyone wants Brind'Amour as well.

He has a name that was once great and a bad contract that overpays him annually. He'd fit right in with the Rags :D Of course, he's only overpaid by a million or so and his cap hit's still relatively low so they might have to pass.

The only team where he'd be useful would be a young team like Colorado. I used to be a big fan of Brindy's game but he has really looked bad the past two years.

Even when his offense slowed down he was still one of the best defensive forwards in the league. Now he's just a liability on both ends of the rink.

Exactly. The game has really passed him by. I feel for him because he's a shadow, and I mean a shadow, of his old self. He really looks like he should be playing in a rec league now.

Note to self. Pick Cam Ward in fantasy next year. He's been doing this for a while. Good year, bad year, good year, bad year.

Making a team out of wash-ups like Samsonov and Jokinen will catch up to you eventually....

Having injuries to 4 of your top 6 will also catch up to you. Whitney, Ruutu, Staal, Cole being out would hurt any team in a major major way.

As if things weren't bad enough in Carolina, Ward left a game hurt. Honestly I have no hate for Carolina and hope that they don't lose Ward on top of everything else. Really, they are one of the more tolerable teams and fan bases in the East.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=505235

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -Carolina goaltender Cam Ward was helped off the ice in the first period of the Hurricanes' game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Ward knelt for a couple of minutes on the ice before he was attended to by team trainers. As he was being helped off, drops of blood hit the ice.
