Just don't look at the money only. A person successfull in the NHL is a winner (anyone who's made it there is). He's an ambitious hard worker with tons of determination and talent. One of the ~700 out of thousands actually making it. Of course that's attractive as well.

briere's kids go to the school my where fiance teaches. he's been with his wife since he was a teenager. i'd bet a lot of the guys in the NHL just stayed with the girls they were dating growing up, especially considering how strange it is to go through that whole junior hockey circuit.

I wouldn't say always. It's like everywhere, some are, some aren't. People fall in love for many reasons, not just beauty. But if you're an athlete or an artist, you are going to get your pick, no doubt about that. You may even suck at what you do, but you will still have your groupies. Typically, willing to do anything to get you.

Oh, as far as why? Well, many reasons. Some think it's cool to sleep with someone famous and brag about it to their friends (this typically applies to groupies). In many cases, it can make a girl feel special if you pick "her". There's the idea of a good life if you marry the girl. Plus, if you're an athlete or a musician, you're probably cooler and more exciting than an suit-wearing, 9-to-5 working, accountant --- sorry to any accountants here, just using that as an example. Pretty women get star stuck just like anyone else. So I think the reasons are pretty obvious. You want a hot girl, get just a little bit famous.
