Fantasy Hockey Trade Advice

Postby Kraftster on Tue Nov 03, 2009 10:59 am

Maybe we can lump them all into one thread since there don't seem to be too many. I think its always helpful if in your question you include your league information, any advice without league info is really shooting blind. Also, if you think that you will have questions throughout the year maybe you can include your roster in your original post so people can refer back (probably only works if you will have a fairly set roster throughout the year).

EDIT: Moved question to second post.

My Team/League:
12 Tm H2H Pts-Contract Years Cap (45/45)
1 Re-sign/2 yrs.
G: 25; A: 25; SHP: 15; PPP: 10; +/-: 8; Shots: 2; PIMs: 2; Hits: 2; Blk: 1; FOW/FOL: 1
W: 50; SO: 75; OTL: 20; Sv: 2; GA: -16

C (3): Crosby(5), McDonald(LW)(2), Dubinsky(2)
RW (3): Brown(3), Boyes(3), Horton(C)(2), Lupul(1), Afinogenov(1), Okposo(IR callup)
LW (3): Morrow(3), Hartnell(2), A. Kost(2), Brunette(1)
D (4): Phaneuf(2), EJ(3), Enstrom(1), Carle(1)
G (2):Fleury(3), Quick(2), Theo(1)
IR: Franzen(2), Lucic(3)

Farm: Berglund, Boedker, J.Johnson, Bernier, Bolland, Moller, Carlson, Karlsson, Markstrom, Eberle, Hornqvist

-------

Anyway, I have this one that I'm curious to get some thoughts on.

My Dubinsky and Carle for Roy and Corvo. It feels like a good sell high/buy low deal, but, please consider league rules and my comments below.

I am pretty high on Dubinsky because of the potential to be reunited with Gaborik and our points for PIMs and Hits. Basically to account for the difference between the two centers on hits and PIMs, tack on 15 points to Dubinsky's totals (about 200 more hits = 400 points (10 points); 60 more PIMs = 120 points (5 points). So, this one could come down to will Roy outpoint Dubie by 15+ this year?

Corvo vs. Carle, well, the Canes can't be this bad all year can they?? Corvo has less competition this year for PP time, I think. He's averaging over 4:00/game, in the top 10 in the league in D PPTOI. Carle feels like a sell high, but, will he keep it up?

The other thing to consider is contracts. Roy is signed to 3 years, Corvo to 2. From my end, Dubinsky is on a 2 year deal and Carle a 1 year deal. (None will be worthy of a re-sign based upon our rules). I don't mind the Roy deal - in fact I prefer having Roy for 3 to Dubinsky for 2. Would most prefer Roy going forward to continue to outpoint Dubinksy by 15-20 points pretty easily?

But, not crazy about 2 years for Corvo. First, I will have to cut a guy like Afinogenov (1 year) to make room or deal a guy like Kostitsyn (2 year) for a bag of pucks. Beyond that, he is a UFA at year's end and its tough to know if he'll find an ideal home.

Thoughts?

I KEEP asking for a fantasy hockey forum on here and it KEEPS falling on deaf ears. There are threads all over the place regarding FH info and deals...it's frustrating!

I think it's because it's hard to understand your league set up based on what you posted.

You've also made it clear that you are high on Dubinski, so it's gonna be hard for anyone to sway you away. I like Roy and he'll give you good FOW points. Not sure if you accounted for that. I also believe he will outscore Dubinski by 15 points easily by the end of the year.

Carle is def a sell high candidate (he's actually already down from his high, so the fact that you are getting offers on him still is nice).

I would make the trade, but I'm not sure I totally understand the long term impacts. If it were me on a single year or normal keeper, I'd do it.

Yeah, I guess I forget that sometimes.

Head2Head Points is basically = Fantasy Football scoring.

Contract Years Cap is basically like a salary cap only the player's years remaining hits the cap (there is no salary). So, basically at the inaugural draft you are at 0/45 and you can hand out contracts of whatever length you like. The cap hit is the amount of years left (so a player to a three year deal has a cap hit of "3"). Players with expiring contracts fall back into the draft pool unless re-signed. Teams get one re-sign per 2 years. So, the idea is its a hybrid between a full-keeper and a limited-keeper. In any given year you might theoretically keep your whole team, but, the draft stays fresh and draft pick values fluctuate based on the strength of the expiring contracts in any given season. You can buy guys out if you want rid of a contract, but, you only get 12 free buyout years each year, thereafter, players hit the cap even if bought out. Farm players are on entry-level contracts for up to three years. Expiring ELCs or anytime before teams can sign the farm players to player contracts if they want. Farm players can be called up during the year for IR players and still be on their ELCs.

Its sort of complicated at first I guess, but, its pretty intuitive.

Anyway, the ultimate impact would be I'll have Dubinsky for two years and Carle for 1 or Roy for three years and Corvo for two.

It's rather curious that there isn't a fantasy forum. I'd definitely check that out on a regular basis.
Though would Pick-A-Pen (which I've never been interested in) be relegated to that area?

Just put in an offer

Vanek

for

Toews

Both are currently underachieving. Toews just got back on the ice for practice. I think he has a higher upside than Vanek. Thoughts?

Toews is way underperforming, and who knows if the concussion lingers. When I met Souray the other day (woo, name drop!), he said it's rough because you feel great one day then have headaches the next.

Vanek is great for goals and PP goals and points. If you are good in the goal scoring dept, I'd say giving him up isn't terrible, but Toews won't get the same goal total as Vanek even though he'll have more points. I don't think I'll ever give up Vanek from my keeper league just because it's hard to find someone who scores goals like he does even though he lacks the assists.

Their point totals are very similar when comparing last year and Vanek only put up 6 more goals than Toews. Until tonight Vanek was underachieving just as much as Toews. Tonight Vanek has 1G and 1A both on the PP

Last years stats

Vanek - 40 goals, 24 assists: 64 points
Toews - 34 goals, 35 assists: 69 points

Both are still underachieving for this year but a couple 2 point games or a 3 point game and they're right about where they should be PPG wise compared to last year. I'll have to think about it. I actually canceled the trade offer soon after I made it because I wanted to think a bit more on it.

I don't know what Toews' PP numbers are like, I just have a hard time passing a goal scoring LW off. Toews is on a LONG list of good centers that can put up similar or better points. It has to do with position too. Not many people will have a 35 + goal scoring LW unless they have AO.

I also have Heatley :lol:

Toews PPG - 12 PPA - 10
Vanek PPG - 20 PPA - 6

Ah. That makes Vanek a little more expendable, but don't sell low on him. Let him catch fire then sell high to someone hurting at LW for someone way better than a damaged Toews.

Fantrax.

I love counting hits. Even blocks (in conjunction with hits) adds to the value of Defensemen. I also love H2H Points. I always hate that "traditional" H2H doesn't have any weighting on the categories. Just seems silly to me.

In a points based league. I've just been offered

N. Backstrom (Caps)

for

D. Boyle (Sharks)

Scoring for the league is as such
Goals = 2 points
Assists = 1 point
+/- = 1 point
PIMs = 1 point
PPG = 3 points
PPA = 2 points
GWG = 5 points

This is my current roster. I'm in 1st. Thoughts?

Those were along my thoughts. Especially since I'm going to have to make room for Savard when he's healthy as it is. Boyle is my only stud blue-liner and I stole him in a trade by giving a guy Theodore and S. Koivu.

The goalies are

Start: 2 points
Win: 3 points
Shutout: 5 points

The FA pool of D-men is very very very thin. That's the first thing I checked. Heck when Blake went on the IR that's the only reason I have Yandle on the team. I denied the trade though. I've already got a good amount of power house forwards.

Would you guys trade Zetterberg and Toews for Malkin and Kessel? I would do it in a heart beat if it didn't hurt my face-off stats.

Unless its like P, +/-, FW or some crazy league structure where FO play an abnormally huge role, you make that 100% of the time.
