Is Matt Martin one of the alternate captains now? I thought I saw that on some highlights. If true, it's LOL worthy.

Stamkos with 3 pts. 8 back.

Geno needs some points today. I don't want this to get close.

2 pts for Geno. Up 10 vs Stamkos, but TB has a game in hand.

All Stamkos needs is one 10 point game and this race is tied!!!!

You can't possibly think that Stamkos or Giroux are going to catch Malkin right?

I won't say never, but unless Geno gets hurt, I think Geno has this.

Just been following this and posting the situation. TB has a game in hand. Nothing more, nothing less.

I was wondering if your pessimism about the ACC was spilling in to other topics.

No, I'm typically pretty confident in these other things.

I've just been burned on Pitt so much, there is no confidence in any move they do. And that will carry over to the ACC as a whole.

Stamkos with 1 point last night. Girioux with 0.

7 games left for Tampa/Pens. 6 for Flyers.

Geno up 9 on Stamkos, and 11 on Giroux. Giroux needs to average 2 pts per game over his last 6 games and have Geno score no points to win it. So barring injury, I think he is offically out of the mix.

Yeah, I was watching that. I saw Stamkos going down the right side, there was a Flyer right by him though. The anouncers said the players on the bench were screaming to pass it to Stamkos.

It was probably one of those things where if he knew there was only 3 seconds left, he would have passed it. But probably not knowing that, he went the safe route and scored the goal to seal the game, which ultimately is the right move.

I think the saddest part of this whole thing is that the barring a late surge from Stamkos the NHL will only have ONE 100-point scorer and ONE (maybe two) 50-goal scorer this year. Comparing the stat page from 05-06 to this year makes me want to cry.

By comparison, only 11 players who have played over 60 games this season are on a PPG pace compared to 35 in 05-06, 32 in 06-07, 24, 22, 21, and 14 last year. From the names it looks like a lot of old blood is being washed out, hopefully the younger guys will start taking over. Still, that's a little scary.

That's not really much different than it's been the past couple years, though. I don't think comparing numbers to 05-06 is a good thing because scoring was inflated the first year or two coming out of the lockout because they were calling everything a penalty. Obviously, they mysteriously stopped calling penalties since around Christmas-time this season but I don't think that's depressed the league leaders because 50 goal and 100 point guys have been rare for a few seasons now. I think one reason is simple - Crosby missed big chunks of time the last two seasons and Malkin missed a bunch last year too. Those are two of the guys who would normally be putting up those kinds of numbers.

Both Geno and Stamkos with 2 pts last night.

Geno still up 9 with 6 remaining for both.

Geno up 13 on Giroux with 6 remaining. He needs 14 to win. I'm going to offically write him off.

now the question is whether Geno gets 4 in 6 games to hit 50 or not.

Geno has the scoring title locked up, and Stamkos as the Rocket Richard locked up. The only drama is if Malkin hits the 50 goal plateau (and if Neal hits the 40 goal plateau)

Neal's at 37. Barring a dry spell he ought to get it.

Geno 9 back of Stamkos, almost untouchable but not impossible. Would take no more from 91 and 2 a game from Geno. Slim at best - it may be more likely that Stamkos is dry the rest of the year than it is Geno catches the 9 goals.

The other question is whether Crosby gets the 6 points necessary to tie Pronovost for 5th on the Pens all time point list, or the 16 for Francis in 4th. Kehoe in 3rd is only 39 away, but that seems certain to be next season at this point.

2 and 12 and 4 games to do it. Thinking former happens and latter (francis at 613) falls just short. Would probably have passed all three of them last season but for the concussion issues.

Giroux no pts today. I'm offically ruling him out. Stamkos no pts with 12 minutes left.
