Team USA - 2014

Postby cheesesteakwithegg on Wed Jan 25, 2012 11:36 am

Sure, the 2014 Olympics are still 2 years away, but I thought it would be interesting to look at the potential members of Team USA for the Sochi games. The talent pool looks to be pretty deep, so they should have a good shot at the gold once again. I apologize if I missed anyone. My picks are in bold (12F - 6D - 3G)

I had him on there originally, but he will be a few months shy of 40 then, so he got left off.

2014 - Corey Schneider might be starting by then. If he does well, he could possibly be the 3rd (or higher) goalie.

If Quick keeps playing like he has been the last 2 seasons, he's gonna be the starter.

Who could emerge to be a part of the group?

Derek Stepan
Nick Leddy
Colin Wilson
Jake Gardiner
Chris Kreider (if he makes the jump quickly) - Dunno how he's been doing at BC but seemed like a beast in the '09 draft.

All potential candidates as well, Kraftster. Like I said, the talent pool with the 2014 team is extremely deep. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Disco as part of the coaching staff. Whoever is the GM of that team is going to have to make some tough choices, though it is a good problem to have.

Not sure if the team or the country will up to Tim Thomas' standards at that point so you can probably rule him out. He sure did have no qualms about putting the jersey on in 2010 while he rode the bench.

Speaking of Neal, saw this picture the other day from when he won gold for Canada during the WJHC. Looks a little bit younger.

What is kind of crazy is that the forwards, for the most part, will stay the same, while the defense will probably be a complete overhaul.

I'm thinking something like this. Love the top nine, D and goalies. I guess this would be the third best roster on paper after Canada and USA.

Sedin – Sedin – Eriksson
Zetterberg – Bäckström – Franzen
Steen – Berglund – Landeskog
Johansson - Pahlsson – Paajarvi

Stalberg, Huselius, Lander, Jarnkrok, Silfverberg, Hornqvist, Larsson

Edler – Karlsson
Kronwall – Enstrom
Murray – Hedman

Larsson, Tallinder, Hjalmarsson, OEL, Rundblad, Erixon, Ericsson, Oduya

Lundqvist
Markstrom
Lindbäck

OEL will surely be on the list for dmen too, no?

What's the scoop on Silfverberg? I've heard some people really high on him coming over and stepping right into the NHL next year?

He and Jarnkrok are both awesome vs seniors this year. Silfverberg is more of a solid two way forward however so maybe he'll establish himself in the NHL more quickly.

And on OEL I would not say surely. No way. He's a great prospect, yes, but we're just stacked on D now. And in an offensive role there's Karlsson, Enstrom, Edler and Kronwall all taking spots already. But yeah I should add him to the back ups.

Gunarsson out there too. Brodin probably won't have done much by then, huh? Probably more like a potential 2018er.
