I used to make those kind of moves in NHL video games. If you want to trade a 72 for a 78, trade him for a 73, then him for a 74, etc. until you get a 78

Is their team even any worse this year because of it?

They're worse losing Downie and worse losing Moore. Joking aside, they probably aren't affected without Kubina on the ice. Maybe miss him on the bench and in the locker room though.

Personally, I think not and it was a good move.

Moore is a complimentary player, losing Downie was a plus, ditching Kubina was a null. How do you see this as a negative considering the picks they have accumulated? That's the question I have to ask.

You don't watch them if you think losing Downie makes them better.

It hurt their depth, obviously, which makes it a little tougher to win. Downie is the best of the lot, the other 2 are garbage

Agreed, Downie was really really good for them last season in a top 6 , pp role.

Downie was about to hit RFA and get paid. Hell, he's got 2 points less than Ruutu. Good move by Yzerman to stock up draft picks and free up cap space so he can swing for a goalie and rebuild his defense.

Where does Downie fit in the COL lineup? With Landeskog and O'Reilley?

I watched the game last night but didn't even really pay attention to that.
