Assuming no hiccups, Ruuttu expected to get a 4-year extension with a slight bump on the $3.8M he's currently earning. #TradeCentre #tsn

I don't really remember a year when pieces thought to get traded and help a club out stay with their teams and actually re-sign. Good for Ruutu.

McKenzie is saying $4.75 million per now. They should have just traded him if it was going to cost them that much to keep him. The guy averages less than 50 points a season. Kunitz is in the 20-25 goal, 50-60 point range per 82 games and he's a million under that.

Yea 4.75 is really really poor overpayment.

Neal at $5mm? It's evident that players sign with the Pens for less money. Even martin did.

I think that bodes will for the Pens. I don't want the other teams getting pieces, and I really want to see the Penguins acquire that Crosby guy -- I know he's injury prone and all -- for the playoff run.

4.75 for Ruutu is crazy, but its Carolina, not exactly a hockey hotbed. The weathers nice though..

This has a 3 year NTC for the first 3 years of the deal. Are you serious?

Would that many teams want Ruutu at that salary, really?

He gets dinged quite a bit for a guy who would be paid that. Only $25K less than James Neal, crazy!?

Not sure what Rutherford's thinking... all the trade talk with Ruutu atop everyone's most wanted list must have screwed with his head. Gleasson was a good sign, as dman are hard to come by, but oft injured 2nd line wingers shouldn't be making 4.75m...

Wow. 4 yrs @ 4.75mil/yr is a serious overpayment for Ruutu. Rutherford has made some pretty questionable moves since Carolina met the Pens in the conf finals a few years ago, and this is another one. Is he thinking that the Canes have a shot at winning the SE with Ruutu this season? I know it's not out of the realm of possibilities as bad as the SE is right now, but this contract is a real puzzler to me.
