It's not that he couldn't crack the lineup, he didn't fit the system. Mike Yeo and him never saw eye to eye...MZ couldn't do anything right in practice, in games, he was under constant bombardment. The reality of the situation is that Zidlicky has been a 20-minute, 40-point per year d-man his entire career...and while he's getting up there in years, he'll be a huge upgrade to the Devils patchwork D which features losers like Mark Fayne and Matt Taormina.
Kurtis Foster has looked horrid and was never more than a #6 - and was scratched a lot this year. Stephane Veilleux is on waivers every day and is a 13th forward at best. Nick Palmieri has been up and down this year but doesn't look quick enough to be a real impact player. He's a big powerful winger with a good shot, but he's nothing more than a complimentary second liner at his very best. And I'm not sure he'll even make that. The 3rd is only given if the Devils get to the East Finals (not happening). So basically they fulfill their team's biggest need and get a top-four d-man for a 2nd round pick and a prospect that every organization has and they lost? They got the only regular NHLer in the deal, and they lost? I'm not sure I'd go that far there Mister.
