The New Jersey Devils have acquired defenceman Marek Zidlicky from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for defenceman Kurtis Foster, forwards Nick Palmieri and Stephane Veilleux as well as a second round pick in 2012 and a conditional third round draft pick in 2013.

It's a lot of **** though...Foster has been abysmal this year, Veilleux is a 13th forward at best, Palmieri has been ok but he's a medium/long shot 2nd/3rd liner...the 2nd and the 3rd are overpayment alone, but what can you do. But don't let the pile of crap fool anyone, you can make a convincing argument that the Wild didn't get nor will get an NHLer out of the deal...Devils got the best player in the deal, some consider that a win.

A lot of ****, but still a decent amount of bodies and picks for a guy who really isn't worth the money they pay him. I know they had some issues in Minnesota between Zidlicky and Yeo, but I feel this deal is a wash.

The condition on the third I believe is awarded if: The Devils make the Eastern Conference this year and Zidlicky plays 75% or more of the games in the first two rounds of the playoffs.

If he goes to Jersey Mike's more than 4 times a week, the trade is revoked.

Best post I've read about this trade was "Lou's on glue". Seems like a housekeeping trade and minnesota took out the trash.

Zidlicky didn't fit in Minnesota. I bet that's much more likely the reason for his downturn than age. Players like him (Gonchar, Lidstrom, Zubov) can perform well into their late 30's. The Devils just picked up a quality top-4 guy who'll improve their PP. Combined with a killer PK, I'd say this move closes the gap between them and the Pens (sans Crosby).

So minny traded their 7th defenseman for 5 things... don't know how you can call this a win for NJ

Because those 5 things suck and Zidlicky fills a huge need for the Devils and is the best player in the deal.

I'll give you five $1 bills for a $10...deal?

I wouldn't go that far there michael

Zidlicky was never better than a #3 defenseman, is dnowhere close to that now, and couldn't even crack the linup in minny

It's not that he couldn't crack the lineup, he didn't fit the system. Mike Yeo and him never saw eye to eye...MZ couldn't do anything right in practice, in games, he was under constant bombardment. The reality of the situation is that Zidlicky has been a 20-minute, 40-point per year d-man his entire career...and while he's getting up there in years, he'll be a huge upgrade to the Devils patchwork D which features losers like Mark Fayne and Matt Taormina.

Kurtis Foster has looked horrid and was never more than a #6 - and was scratched a lot this year. Stephane Veilleux is on waivers every day and is a 13th forward at best. Nick Palmieri has been up and down this year but doesn't look quick enough to be a real impact player. He's a big powerful winger with a good shot, but he's nothing more than a complimentary second liner at his very best. And I'm not sure he'll even make that. The 3rd is only given if the Devils get to the East Finals (not happening). So basically they fulfill their team's biggest need and get a top-four d-man for a 2nd round pick and a prospect that every organization has and they lost? They got the only regular NHLer in the deal, and they lost? I'm not sure I'd go that far there Mister.
