The New York Rangers have traded forward Wojtek Wolski to the Florida Panthers in return for defenceman Michael Vernace and a third-round draft pick in 2013.

Yep, that's probably the meaning of that trade. Good, it's a bad idea for NY to get nash. Not sure how they can proceed with Gaborik, Richards, and Nash earning gigantic salaries. They're all good, but none of them are bona fide superstars like Malkin, Stamkos, etc.

I'd love to see the NYR lose Staal or Mcdonagh and Stepan too

Craig Button made an interesting point that FLorida likely acquired Wolski to give them a boost in shootouts down the stretch. Could be the first such deal if that is the case, at least that I can recall.

See, I would question this move because how many shootouts are in the playoffs? That's why Erik Christensen was useless in the playoffs.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Wild got Crusher for the exact same reason.

Florida just wants to get there.

Got to beat the Capitals. They lost the last 2 against them. Those are 2 big games that really could determine who is in and out.

I don't think Winnipeg is going to get in being they are up 4-5 games played on most teams.

I love watching Wolski play. I've been a big fan of his since he entered the league. He's a very different player from most in the league. When he's healthy I think he's a great player, but he's had a problem with that recently. One thing that I always found strange about him is his comeback ability. Usually you see players like Lemieux or Malkin who can will a team to victory on talent and desire alone, but for some reason, Wolski plays great when his team is down. I've never seen someone like him, that isn't a superstar type, lead so many comebacks. He did it all the time in Colorado and in Phoenix.

I imagine Wolski will instantly become a fan favorite in Florida. He finds out he's been traded at 12:00 off a legit SC contender in the NYR but immediately gets on a flight to Raleigh to play against the Canes . And scores late to to send the game into OT.
