This sets a very bad precedent for the playoffs. That may have been one of the most egregious attempts to injure an opposing player in recent memory. This wasn't one of those so-called "grey area" hits where a player puts himself into a dangerous position or the result of the game being "too fast". That's the problematic part of this ruling, this is one of those blatant attempts at targeting a player's head to injure that the league supposedly wants out of the game.

Nice one, Shanahan. I'd be so pissed if I were a Wings fan.

meh Zetterbugger was ok so they won't take a premier defensive player out of the play-offs for something like that. It's wrong that it's like this, but that's the way it is.

Hate Detroit and love Shea Weber, but honestly, what in the world is the point of supplemental discipline? Blatant intent to injure. Just ridiculous.

Agreed 100%. I want Detroit to lose as much as the next guy, but you gotta (rightfully) send a message there.

Can't stand when punishment is determined by the result, not the act.

If it was announced today that Zetterberg suffered a concussion, Weber would HAVE to be suspended... but since he appears to be OK, Shanny let him off easy. It sets a terrible precedent.

I guess the thing that bothers me.... is I'd be absolutely shocked if Z didn't atleast have Neck Pain but since he is going to tough it out and play its not going to warrant a suspension

DET should have said after the game Z had a headache and is doubtful for game 2 with concussion like symptoms. Whether it was true or not, this is what Shanny is pushing teams towards

Ha, just saw on twitter from @capgeek

"Shea Webber fined 2500 from his 7.5 mil salary - applying the same ratio to someone making 50,000, that's $16"

Ill pay 20 to hit a few Flyers in the head.

Weber should be gone for the playoffs and at least the first 5 maybe 10 next season.

Clear intent to injure, i mean really? does it get any clearer than that.

Meh. Punching Zetts in the head would have hurt him much worse than a WWF move. Zetts sold it too. It's whatever. Not going to take a star out of the game on a play where there was honestly minimal risk of injury. (Go ahead, flip out about how dangerous this is just like many of you did when I said there was no risk of the Lavy stick whack causing injury and you responded that he could have killed 12 children).

Really? I mean, when I saw it live I grimaced at the attempted punch, but when I saw he missed that, it was meh after that. I mean, you can't really hurt someone like that. I'm glad the league didn't alter the way the series would flow. I could live with a one-game suspension, but I think the "injury risk" is really over blown.

The punch is 10x worse than the head slam, FYI, and Malkin does that like well every game.
