Flyers will be scary for years to come

Postby The Current One on Mon Apr 16, 2012 5:51 am

Schenn, Couturier, Read, etc. Pens have no one remotely at their level in the system, and to think that their rookies are dominating NOW! Despres you say? Lol. Morrow? Maybe, but he's a good 2-3 years away. Bennett is their highest rated forward, and by all accounts, he's nothing special. Decent speed but soft as butter. Looks like the Pens will be taking it at the hands of the Flyers for a long time coming!

Cool story, bro. When they can't sign 3 of those players in 3 years we will then see.

Not only that, but one of those rookies is going to go on a sophomore slump, if not multiples. The Philly media will eat them alive. We'll see. They will still have Bryz in net regardless.

Having to worry about signing them in three years is a nice problem to have. Certainly better than having no talent in the system. And, as well as they're playing now, a Stanley Cup is definitely a possibility.

Yeah but they still will find a way to not win the Stanley Cup

The flyers are not built to beat the rangers and the bruins.

The Flyers only look this good because they are playing the Pens. We are doing NOTHING to stop anyone. Those players might pan out but we've heard this story for years witht he Flyers when it was Richards and Carter leading the charge.

Until they get quality goaltending and don't need to rely on Coburn, Carle, Grossman and Kubina then they might be awesome.

Next round they get destroyed because a real team won't let them score 20 goals over 3 games.

The Pens are making the Flyers look WAAAY better than they are playing. Philly will get killed in the rounds to come. Rookies are playing better than expected, but they are not that good imho.

They may be scoring 5+ goals on us, but they're also giving up almost 4 every game. They won't make it very far.

As others have said, Philly looks so good right now because the Pens are playing incredibly bad. Philly has a good team, but they aren't going to be able to beat the Rangers or Bruins playing the way they are. They are also giving up a lot of goals and their goaltending is a joke.

It's like the Ravens, they build them to beat the Steelers and no one else.

They won't be able to sign all that young talent. Yes, they are playing at a high level in a simple system that holds them responsible for defense. They deserve to win because they are playing 60 minutes of hockey. When young talent gels and realizes that $$$ on other teams will be there for the taking, they will bolt. The Pens run and gun style of playing and offense is your best defense is being torn to shredds and DB doesn't have a solution to cure the problem.

I have to agree with the OP. Sure they are giving up 4 goals to us, but we are the highest scoring team in the league. I think the Flyers have a solid young core that will keep them very competitive for the next few years. Everyone has trouble keeping their young talent. I may get flamed for this, but I think they have a very good head coach also. He always seems to pull the right strings.

You know what PR needs? More posts about the Flyers. Also, if you want to do what the Flyers did, you're going to be trading Malkin, Crosby in order to get the players and how the Flyers acquired them.

I think they'll eventually win a Cup but people also said the Pens and Caps would be perpetually scary as well, but the parity in the league now suggests otherwise for everyone, more or less.

Technically no, they traded 2x Jordan Staals while also drafting a Crosby 22nd overall.

Well we have one Jordan Staal covered. So we need to trade who else to acquire the people that they received? lol

Its a shame that all the pens have to match is Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Neal, Fleury, Letang.... All of whom still have a decade of high level hockey remaining. Oh, how can they match the 1 time production level of those 3 rookies.

Did you even read what you were saying before you hit "Submit"? Matt Read? Really? Dude is the same age as Geno. He is a year OLDER than Sid.

This happens every year. There are some young players that come along and everyone says they are 'the next superstars'. A few years ago it was Carter and Richards. Last year is was Corey Perry and Bobby Ryan. Backstrom/Ovechkin was supposed to be a deadly combination, yet they had a tough year.

There are only two guys that are consistently tearing this league to shreds, and they both play here. Get your head right.

Also don't underestimate Jagr, especially as the PP catalyst. There is a reason he is one of the all time greats of the sport. He won't be around forever.

I think the Flyers will be good for a few years now, but it has more to do with Laviolette than with the players. I've been really impressed by his coaching (not so much the antics, but whatever.)

After a few years, I think his constant 'in your face, chip on your shoulder' mentality will get old, especially if it doesn't produce results soon. The Flyers have also really handcuffed themselves cap-wise. No one is going to take on the contracts of Pronger ($5M through 2017), Bryzgalov ($5.67M through 2020), and Briere ($6.5M through 2015).

They only have $3M in cap space for next year, and Carle, Kubina, Jagr, and Voracek are all unsigned.

eh. jagr will be gone, talbot will stop caring, guys will become too expensive to keep, their goaltending is still hilarious, their defense isn't very good and they still have the ability to look like crap against other teams.

they're a very good team, but not a juggernaut

oh... and laviolette will run his course. you can't coach 1 team like that for 2 long before guys turn on you

The pens are playing bad. The Flyers will be eliminated in the next two rounds with the way Bryz is playing.
