Definitely possible. Being black in hockey is probably rarer than homosexual players. There does seem to be racist tones out there that black players shouldn't be in the league. Now if the media is perpetuating it is something I do not know, but there is racism in hockey and is has been shown a few times over the past few years.

As someone who studies prejudice and discrimination and its effects on individual work performance and motivation, I agree. A material aspect of the problem here is that, once again, an incredibly complex issue has been reduced to a simple soundbite that triggers general reactions among people. These general reactions are inappropriate in their simplicity, especially in that they can't consider the historical societal overtones vis-a-vis the individual's situation. The "truth" isn't really a yes or no proposition.

Not trying to be a schenndisturber, and I'm certainly not criticizing anyone here. I'm just asserting that generalizations about the topic and the people involved (both the allegedly prejudged and/or discriminated against and the alleged perpetrators of such) aren't helpful.

The problem is that saying something is racially motivated is like crying wolf.

Not to bring politics into it, but many people have claimed Republicans oppose President Obama because they don't like his skin color and thats just absurd. Or they don't support amnesty because they're racists, or that the NRA is the new KKK.

So many trivial things are cast that way that people being rolling their eyes when something legitimately prejudicial is happening.

If you take those two things and throw in his other issues (rumors) of skipping out restaurant bills and things of that nature..well yeah..some people might not like you very much.

I really don't have an issue with the Winnipeg rank and file fans having an issue with his ridiculous haircut, nor with his flaunting his giant stacks of bills on Twitter. I'd be lying if I said that "YOUNG MONAYYYYYY" thug crap doesn't irritate me as well. So yes, in that respect, maybe that product of his race has led to that criticism.

That being said, if he was producing and having a good season, people would overlook that and cheer him loudly. But because he has been underwhelming, you have to focus on other stuff..
