not a big fan of shanahan...i think he's pretty cheap, but i'm sure that's just b/c he's a vet and he knows how to get away with it. either way, that's a pretty ballsy thing to do to fight brashear whenever you're a scorer.

It was only after Brashear lined up against Jags on a faceoff and took a cheapshot elbow/shoulder when the puck dropped.

Shanny mouthed Brashear, then came out and dropped the gloved. Shanny held his own, and got a decent uppercut in.

The most outrageous part was avfter the fight, as the linesman is skating Brashear to the box, one of the Rangers (?) on the ice must have said something to Brashear, and he basically took a cheap shot 2-3 punch flurry on the Ranger.

Suspension-material.

No one ever accused Brashear of being smart or classy.

I believe it was Colton Orr that came up high on him with both hands & busted him in the chops.

You would be correct.

That happened after the Brashear-Shanny fight and subsequent Brashear cheap shot donkey punch.

late last evening saw espn, they gave this game tres' tv time.
I think it was a Darius K hit on AO that set the tone for the game.
Score was 4-1, but they focused on the fights.

John Buccigross, called Shanahan "captain," and was giving
him praise for fighting. The co-anchor waiting to do
NBA highlights, says, "doesn't that game have any rules?"

Yeah, Kaspar hit AO early on. I thought it was clean.

I watched the game and the recap on Hockey Night in Canada. Don Cherry was in rare form.... ragging on Brashear for taking the cheap shot on Jags to incite the fight. Cherry said something about Brashear 'that jerk, being a tough guy against europeans, fins, swedes, or whatever Jagr is' (I think Cherry is becoming a bit senile).

Brashear should get 9-10 games for the sucker punch on Ward. The Caps have been in a few of these brawl filled games this season.

TSN is reporting that Brashear and Orr will face disciplinary action from the league.

Orr gets 5 games, Brashear 1.

Both acts were outrageous. I guess because Orr's came at the end of the game (an obvious retalliation) and involved a stick (high cross check), his actions warranted more games in Campbell's mind?

I think both guys got off light. Any stick foul like Orr perpetrated should be at least 10, but that's solely a difference of opinion.

How Brashear got away with one lousy game is beyond me. It's a joke. Scott Nichol suckered Jaroslav Spacek and got 8 or 9 games for it. I'd like to know how they differentiated the Nichol incident from this one.

thanks for the link...just watched it. there's absolutely no reason why brashear should only get one game for something like that. that's definitely a joke.

Shanny doesn't wear a visor, right? Why did they both throw their helmets off before the fight?

Shanny must have told Brashear either on the bench or right before the fight that he wanted "Buckets off". Shanny needs those hands to score goals, i'm sure he didn't want to tear them up on a helmet.
