Eklund's getting an early jump on his false rumors this year.......
Why on earth would you want to change the chemistry of this team right now????????

Deja Vu from the past 2 years. I swear this trade has been "proposed" about 11 times now

Yea we have been hearing this sort of crap for Staal for years now. I would love to see Jack Johnson AND Dustin Brown as Penguins though. Maybe Staal/Letang for Johnson/Brown??? That would be my guess.

Me too, but honestly.....I think Eklund just recycles these rumors.

this makes even less sense now that both teams are top 5 in conferences.

Just because teams are performing well does not mean they will not make trades. Maybe Letang wants out of Pittsburgh because he knows we will not give him anywhere near what he is asking for and LA needs an offensive D-Man. Letang for Johnson straight up?

Under those exact circumstance (and considering that Johnson is signed on the cheap for another year): perhaps worth considering

Dustin Brown would be awesome with Sid or Malkin but it's Eklund, so it's BS

That would be awesome.
That trade could be as great as the Francis trade!
The Kings would never do it.

Johnson was taken #3 overall in the season that Letang was taken #62. Letang, despite that, has: played more regular season games (+15), playoff games (+39), has more goals (+8), assists (+23), a better career +/- (+35). He's physical for his size and he's a RHS. Johnson's also had attitude issues. LA is absolutely stacked with young defensemen and Johnson is signed to $1.425 next year. But, Johnson is friends with Crosby...

They do?

Its actually not Eklund per se. Matt Barry seems to have some decent connections in the Kings org.

Alright so they DO have one dominant offensive defenseman, but he can't be on the ice for the entire 60 minutes.

For this to make any sense, as someone said above, it would have to be Letang going the other way. If the the 2 parties are way way way off in contract negotiations at this point, there could be some merit to this.
Gonchar must remain in a Penguins uniform next year. He makes this team click..........

If the Pens were going to trade Staal, I'd expect them to go for more of a sniper than a power forward. Not that I'd be at all against acquiring Brown. 30 goal scorer, hits, fights.

Brown is way more skilled than most realize, I think. I don't know, at least all of the Kings games I've watched this year and last, I'm always very surprised by his puck skills. Hey may not be a sniper, but, he'll get the tough goals to go along with a fair amount of solid finishes. Not advocating for a hypothetical deal like this one way or the other, just saying that Brown is >>> Kunitz and I get the sense that some equate the two.

Exactly, I think Johnson and Brown for Staal and pending RFA Letang is highway robbery. No way LA would do it.

Yeah, but if you noticed, Ek put out the rumor before Matt did....
Trust me, if there's a big deal or signing, Eklund never wants any of his bloggers to break it before he does.... I won't get into specifics, but that happened one time in the past, and Ek almost had a coronary....

Staal is locked up and we don't need an upgrade on defense. You don't trade talent under contract...
