Excellent post.

If the roof falls in and the Kings are yet again outside the playoff picture near the trade deadline, this deal or similar would be a lot more believable than right now. I don't see a team that is starting to achieve like the Kings are suddenly trading their most popular player and team captain away when they are starting to have success after a long rebuilding process.

I was thinking about this philosophy of Shero's as well. It seems that he takes a shot every year at bringing in a "skilled" winger on the cheap. First, it was Ekman, then Sykora, then Satan and maybe Pesonen, and this year it was Borque. He just hasn't found any that were able to stick.

Ekman was a Patrick trade, wasn't he?
Anyways, sniper shlipers, I'd rather have power forwards making room for Sid and Geno than some softy with a shot.

All that needs to be said. Up and coming teams don't typically trade their young, cap friendly captains.

Strength down the middle is something I enjoyed watching during the playoffs last season
Trading a 20 year old who looks like he's gonna get another 20 something goals and 50 points with no PP time and Matt Cooke on his wing isn't my idea of a good trade. Trading a puck moving d-man who can skate his way out of trouble isn't either.

Brown is overrated here, and it's not like L.A. is in a rush to move him either.
The difference between him and Staal is not actually that large.
For now at least. Like the article said, Brown's as good as he's probably going to get, and Staal looks like he's going to keep getting better.

At this point, the Penguins and Kings should just swap teams.

Add in Malkin for Kopitar and this has the makings of an incredible deal for Mr. Shero. We won't lose the Cup for 15 years.

I think the Pens would love to do Brown/Jacksson for Staal/Letang but I don't see the Kings making that move.
The Pens would get more edge, and the third line (whose scoring importance is slightly overrated) would still be very good with Cooke, Talbot and Kennedy. Also, cap wise it'd be a huge move.

We were doing so well with no Eklund rumors!
(Not knocking on the OP, knocking on Eklund)
A team that's tied for first place in the East planning on trading players. Now that's a a good joke.

I agree with everything here. I like watching LA games because they are a fun team to watch, and I don't get all the love for Brown? To me he seems a little more skilled than Kunitz but nothing drastically different. Truthfully, I'd rather have Staal.
Johnson looks great when he plays, but like you I'm still waiting for the results. I think in the end he will be a better player than Letang, but right now, that's not a given.

I like Brown, but I'd rather have Staal/Letang over Brown/Johnson.

What number is Young on defense?

Eklund should focus on his flyers first.

I just don't see Shero shaking anything up at this point. I mean we just went through a terrible stretch of injuries and we're still sitting pretty.... I'm a firm believer that many believe in "of it ain't broken don't fix it" and Shero just doesn't seem like the guy who would pull such an extreme trade like that off in the running of one of the Pens best projected seasons ever....

Yeah I know it's early.... but....
Oh... the only thing I see Shero shaking up maybe is firing that piece of dung Yeo.

ahhh no. You don't trade when your team has no glaring needs besides a better stroke of luck from the injury fairy.
