This. There is a lot to be said for chemistry, and the Staal/TK/Cooke line gets pretty hot, and Letang/Eaton pinch better than any pair we have.

Excellent post.

Wow, I like how you forgot about RS and the Hossa trade. He was a winger, a sniper and a big body.

The Pens should change NOTHING right now. On top, defending champs. The biggest problem the Pens have will be getting Gonchar and Letang under contract next year. RS might make a move late in year to improve them for the playoffs and ease salary to get one under contract.

I dont have any interest in Jack Johnson and his -10 so far this season. I'm probably one of the biggest trade Staal guys on this board, but I think we need to let this string of strong play ride a little.

Dustin Brown is not going anywhere. Not to mention he's the King's captain, and a guy that is awfully well liked.

Both teams are top contenders so far this year.

It's an eklund Rumor.

so....why are we talking about this?

Staal would basically be going into the same situation there.

Kopitar
Moellar- he's up and coming and destined for the number two center spot unless they move him to wing.
then Staal

So even though Moeller isn't even in the NHL right now the 2nd line center spot would be his regardless?

What about them? You're not implying they are better than Staal, are you?

This is why I didn't Mention stoll and Handzus.

Moellar is young and will be a incredibly skilled center. Kopitar is a monster.

Staal doesn't crack top two lines in that system after next year when Moellar is ready.

Not in skill/potential sence, but Handzus makes $4M and Stoll $3.6M. Adding Staal's $4M to the center mix ties them up WAY worse financially than the Penguins. Not only would they end up with $4M on the 3rd line center (like here) but also $3.6M on the 4th. (or vice versa). Then again, that is only $18.4M on 4 centers compared to our $22M on 4 centers...

I get all of the arugments about Staal being overpaid, being nothing more than a 3rd line winger, and frankly, I completely agree.

But for whatever reason, when he plays that position, this team is very good and he makes his two 3rd line wingers excellent, and the team wins.

So I'll take it.

If the Penguins hadn't won the cup, then I firmly believe that Staal would no longer be a Penguin as he would have been dealt to help round out the top 2 lines. As it stands, Shero and the organization like the way the team is structured and see that the formula they have in place is working. They aren't going to make that kind of major shake up until it becomes apparent that what they have isn't getting the job done. End.

I'm not saying it's his automatically, but for progression purposes it doesn't make sense. Even with Stoll and Handzus adding another center without getting rid of someone or having intention of converting a center to a winger, just doesn't make sense.

I totally agree that it doesn't make sense. Not for the Kings and neither for the Pens. That whole rumor is complette BS.
