That's what i want to know...where do we hear this live announcement?
I heard Madden rambling about being on the air today instead of off....so, ESPN Radio might have hit.

Pittsburgh's always had 3 sports franchises, and we don't REALLY want a big casino, but that is besides the point.
You don't make a stupid decision to create terrible traffic, if you can avoid it. It is that simple. If you are out driving, and you have two choices to get to your destination, and one of them is completely tied up by an accident, do you choose to go that way anyhow? Even for you, I suspect not.
The point is, if there are alternatives, use them. Don't make a bad situation worse, on purpose.

2. There are other concerns with Majestic Star - notably, their plan doesn't call for a temporary casino (the other two have temp. casinos built into their plans), and that would delay the arrival of slots here by a year or so. I've also heard that the gaming board loves their location.
And to say that they're less off financially than the other two would be an understatement.
I think they have a decent proposal but I think it's still a two horse race.

You are so condescending with your little back handed personal insults.
All this from a guy who claims to be a subject matter expert on everything he speaks of. So tell me, Mr. Civil Engineer, exactly which software package did you use to generate your estimates for traffic flow?

As devils advocate: one of the foundations of the new arena is the number of new events that it will be able to house. What about all of the traffic problems that will occur on nights that there is an event when a slots parlor is right next to it?
There are more than 2 ways into that area, but on the South Side you are stuck with only 2 options. If an emergency were to occur there (IoC), there would be a number of routes for emergency crews to take.
No matter what you think about there are a 1000 of variables, there is one true constant, and that is the South Side is not capable of supporting this additional traffic. And that has nothing to do with if you think we Pittsburghers have no clue what traffic is, that is a very FLAWED argument.
If Harrah's was the one the Pens teamed up, 99% of the people here would be saying that its a good idea to but the casino in an already busy area, rather than clogging up another part of the city.
I don't get your angle. Are you trying to show us how enlightened you are? Or that you can see both sides of this issue? Since I'm not just a pens robot, I think it is a no brainer to pick IOC for the main reason is it is developing a part of the city that has nothing and that no one goes too. The other plans are good, but why develop places that have seen new development recently and ignore the part that has seen nothing in 40 years. Yes, I want the pens to stay and that causes some bias, but don't preach to us like we are a bunch of idiots.

Ok, I was just trying to find your element of suprise. If it was that PITG is not a long shot that everyon thought, I've thought for the last 3 months they were rightup there with the other two plans, and also have had some advantages.
Like you said, and I think too, a delay would hurt the PEns the most. If this is going to be done, get it done today. I really hope the Board takes into consideration not only the people in Pgh's thoughts, but the Pgh Gaming Board recommendation also. Only one more hour until this crap starts. I'm getting very nervous and I don't think I'll get much work done.
I was watching Honsberger's show on PCNC last night. He had a gaming expert from RMU on and the expert seemed to think that FC was the frontrunner with Barden being second. Not sure what his reasoning was for thinking IOC is the long shot.

Gaming expert from RMU isn't that an oxymoron? You know the old saying those who can do,Those who can't teach

If IOC loses, it will be interesting to see if they legally challenge the board decision.

Funny you should mention the redevelopment of the hill. Did you read this one: "Member Sanford Rivers asked why there has been so much discussion about an arena and so little about any commitment to the community and city as a whole by the Isle of Capri." Sounds like the only concrete answer they have from IoC is the arena, and other than that, they were under the impression that IOC is just going to throw a bunch figures out. Money alone doesn't make problems go away.
This board is so against seeing all sides of the argument its laughable.

If Harrah's does win, lets hope someone leaks some damning evidence that ends the careers of all politicians involved.
a lot of talk of the FIX by the media but they have yet to dig up any concrete evidence. If the president can get blown in the oval office and get caught they gotta be able to find something on this.

Madden said that he would on Monday.
I love Madden's passion about the team and hockey in general.
