17. (228) R.J. Umberger (Cls - C)
18. (249) Dustin Byfuglien (Atl - RW,D)
19. (256) Andy Greene (NJ - D

Not a fan of Gomez, Stajan, Umberger or your last two picks, but otherwise its a pretty strong team. Also not sure about Backstrom as 4th overall pick.

Thanks npv. I took Gomez and Stajan because I was weak at center and needed some face-off help.

As for the last two picks, they'll be the first to go I'm sure once I notice a solid waiver wire pick-up.

Backstrom is cool at #4. His numbers should go up again this season. Price is a bad pick - he will not be that good this year, and Striet and Johnson as your first 2 dmen is questionable. There had to be better dmen available at those picks.

I agree with what your saying. Streit is a great sleeper pick in most leagues, but not as a 1/2.

Streit is going to go low in a lot of drafts because he had a "down" year last year. But he's still going to get tons of points and PP time on a team that should score a decent amount (but can't play d). I think he'll get undervalued because he plays on a terrible team, and as far as actual hockey goes, he's not a great dman. But fantasy stats don't care about his intangibles that don't exist.

He and Boyle are my top 2 in my keeper league and I can't imagine getting much better in a 14 team league without acquiring Green somehow.

I'm not a fan of Gomez either, but I think that's a good pick as late as he was. I'd keep an eye on your goalies. I don't think it's very likely, but Howard could end up pulling a Steve Mason, and Leighton is... well, Leighton. ;)

And my top 3 keeper dmen are Weber, Phaneuf, and Chara. :pop:

You've got solid D, I'd say. I'd rank them differently than they were picked.

1. Markov
2. Streit
3. Johnson
4. Greene - he's a very nice last pick. Going to have a nice year offensively I think.

Forwards look pretty good too.

I wouldn't have picked those 3 goaltenders. All of them are unproven. Howard could go either way, a vezina trophy or Steve Mason. Price is a bum. Leighton is a bum.

Oh, I didn't even notice Howard as the #2 pick! That better be blamed on a quick goalie run meaning that Luongo, Brodeur, Miller, Lundqvist, Fleury, Turco, even Ward ....were all gone by that time! I'd have even taken Vharlamov over Howard at that pick.

Solid team. When I saw how late you took your first LW I was worried you were going to be really thin there because that position is thinner than usual this year with a couple blows on position changes (Zetterberg, Eriksson, Vermette come to mind immediately). Still, you need Frolov to have a pretty nice year. I'd probably look to deal some of your RW depth for LW at some point -- a week 3 or 4 sell high buy low seems about right. Pretty good goaltending for where you took it. I like Leighton plenty as a legit #2, so, you h ave adequate protection for the risks involved with Howard and Price (not sure I buy into those risks all that much myself).

Re some of the comments on your team:
How can anyone not like Andy Greene in the last round?
Backstrom is fine at #4, imo.
Turco over Howard no thank you.

I agree on most of the Streit comments. His value justifies where you took him, but he probably could have been had later in the draft because of how much he slides under the radar.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

I'm not sure about the questions with Howard. I think he's going to be a really solid goalie this year. I like him a lot, especially considering how he plays for a really solid team. And yes...the big guns were gone. But I did have him ranked as the 4th best goalie behind Brodeur, Lundqvist, and Luongo.

As for LW, I totally agree that I'm thin there and might be able to move a LW at some point. I'm also a little concerned about my centers. I'm half tempted to offer some kind of package to get Paul Statsny.

Appreciate the thoughts guys!

yea andy greene in the last round is ballin. its hard to argue against the top offensive threat from the blueline on a PP with ilya. and its hard to argue against streit who has been 9th, 7th, and 3rd in D scoring last 3 years.

I'm looking to add some center depth and I have a lot of right wingers. Do you think I should propose the following trade: Hossa for Statsny?
