Reports on Twitter that when Simmonds was called to take part in a shootout in their game against DET tonight, someone threw a banana.

I understand what the outrage is, however we do not know the motivations of the thrower. It very well could have been racial (probably was), but it also could have been some drunk person throwing a banana randomly or a high school kid trying to be funny.

Your post is ignorant and offensive. Attempting to rationalize this event or find humor in it is sickening. Somebody threw a banana on the ice at the exact same time a black player was involved in a shootout. The message they were sending is clear. There is nothing random about the act. Drunken condition and/or youth don’t excuse racism.

Too bad the authorities didn’t find them so they could be identified as the filth they are and ostracized to the fullest extent from being treated respectfully by society at large.

Keeping fruit like a banana in a purse as a nutritious snack or for potassium deficiency isn’t a license to throw a banana on the ice at the exact same time a black player has the attention of the entire arena on him while he is attempting a shot in the shootout. The same goes for buying a banana at a concession stand.

This is pure racism, a hate crime, and an attempt to intimidate a black player.
