This comes up every preseason. Detroit always uses a block font on their preseason jerseys. They will be wearing their traditional arched name font when the puck drops in the regular season.
As you can imagine, it's kind of hard to make their name plates. Thus they only make them for those who make the team. Kind of like having to earn the right to look like a Red Wing.
