Nystrom made zero attempt to even pretend to try and play the puck.

I might be in the minority but I'm not so sure that hit was intentional at all. Letang got stuck making a low move and it was a wrong place, wrong time kind of thing. (ducking)

Who held who there? Sure looked like the Star was holding Malkin around the waist.

Letang is the guy we can not afford to lose.....Team has no transition game without him...Pens went 10-11 without Letang...I thought he was hit more in the shoulder than the head.

not at all. it was a head on hit, so the new rules don't apply. letang dipped his head going into the play. there is no way for the dallas player to make a safe hit on the play, and since it's head on, he is not responsible for the safety of the puck carrier

it's the truth

By the same token, Nystrom shouldn't have his elbows out like that. Letang's head didn't drastically change before the hit.

Intentional in the result, no. Intentional in that Nystrom didn't even try and play the puck, yes.

That looks like a season-ending injury, especially since he already had a concussion. If so, that pretty much ends our chances at a cup run. Even if Crosby comes back, it's tough without a scoring D-man. Already that power play looked messed up without Letang.

A few years ago I would have said Letang can't put himself in that position.... however the rule has been set, the Matt Cooke rule, you can't do that anymore. If the Penguins have to play by that rule and have their players change the way they play, then the rest of the league should too.

He didn't play the puck and watch his elbow move to catch Letang there. He might get some time off or a fine there.

I guess if Letang wasn't boarded right before the elbow he wouldn't be reaching to get back the play.

Nystrom could've kept his elbows down.

The only reason I disagree is that I think Nystrom seemed to hit upward. That's my own subjective thought though... definitely think Letang made himself vulnerable.

that rule doesn't apply when you are facing the man. letang wasn't hit from behind, so toss that out the window

Letang put himself in a bad spot, and Nystrom made no effort to make a clean hit. Both were partially at fault there IMO

Regardless as to whether Letang was too low at the time, Nystrom made no attempt to play the puck and there was a head shot because of it.

Te good thing that I saw is that it didn't appear to be a direct hit to the head.. more like a glancing blow. Maybe just got his nose clipped?
