mariojr wrote:I don't give a ^%#$ about the fights. The Penguins are terrible right now. They're losing to everybody, and the games aren't even close. With a chance at the number 1 seed, they lost two straight to the [i]Islanders[i]. They managed enough effort and intensity to get a win at Buffalo. But then they came home and laid this egg against the Capitals, making the season series 4-1. And this will be the way the playoff series goes, as well. Fluery has not played like an elite goalie in almost a month, and unless he turns it around, they have no chance whatsoever, as defense is something they give only cursory attention. They haven't exactly been great at offense either. Oh, Corsby scored. THAAAAAAAAAAT'S NAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIICE."
Thanks, I needed a good laugh.

So did Scheen know the puck was in? If so, he knew he had a free shot on 87. It wasn't severe enough to draw a suspension, but Shanny should fine him a few bucks. It won't happen, but it's a dangerous precedent.

The penguins taking liberties? A clean hit on a guy with the puck compared to a friggan cross check from behind while a guy is going to the bench?
F off NBC.

I don't understand why Laviolette was peeved there. He had to know that if Schenn got another shift, someone would go after him and with Bylsma having the last change, he would put out people to make sure it happened. The hit on Briere was clean, there was nothing wrong with it. I don't expect anything to happen next Sunday, but hopefully this wakes the Pens up and they get their crap together here.

It's essentially a 9 game series, where the first 2 don't count. They can have this one.

The officials blew it - there is an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty of the 10 minute variaty that they could have used there.

But seriously, this was a good response for the Pens. I think the cryers are hating more than the Pens. Good to see some emotion out there. Get the fire back into this. Hopefully this creates a bit of a distraction for them next game.

I realize that they have particular problems with the Flyers, but the kind of defense that has them 12th in the NHL in goals against (maybe a spot or two lower after today's embarrassment) isn't going to cut it in the playoffs, against just about anybody. They need to stop talking about committing to playing solid team defense and actually commit to playing solid team defense, because they're pretty freaking putrid right now.

This is exactly what's concerned me. You shouldn't have to rely on your goalie playing at an elite level every single night - but that's how Penguin hockey has been this season.

Can someone give a brief outline of what happened in the last minute after the Sullivan goal/Schenn cheap shot?
All I can get from the posts is, another Flyers goal, Asham ran Schenn (clean) and got jumped. No fights noted in the penalty summary.

They could have called a 5 min major and it would have stuck, but that's a huge call in that situation which really changes the game for a hit that happens every week. A 2 min call was correct, but the rules didn't allow it to be enforced.

Would much rather see the Pens playing good hockey and getting wins than gaining a moral victory by responding to Philly cheap shots. Phily gets a dual win today, IMO. Not only are they that much closer to catching the Pens for home ice in the first round, they've continued to get under their skin. They're accomplishing what they want. It's nice to see the Pens show some fire, but if they go into the next games against Philly looking for revenge they've already put themselves at a disadvantage.
Time is ticking away. The Pens continue to back into the playoffs and this is not going to bode well. It's a shame, they can play so well as a team when there are injuries but they lose everything when they're fortunate enough to have a healthy team. This team is near unstoppable when they're healthy and clicking but it's been so rare for that to occur since the Cup win.

Serious gut check time for the Pens from here on out. They need to wake up and get their minds right.

Agreed. Hopefully this will wake them up. Zero emotion over the last several games. The goal happy sleep walkers may finally get it together. I thought they would finally make a concerted effort to playing a strong game in all three zones. I guess i was wrong. Props to Vitale for still playing the game.

Start by playing some team defense would be a good beginning.

By the way, I know when they got opportunities, they got great ones, but we outshot them 47-26 and had about 10 great opportunities we shot right into Bobrovski's gut.
