Malkin and Neal got a lot of praise when the team was winning and they were on fire. Things have gotten hard. This is how things go.

Gotta make sure everyone gets their cumuppins... got it.

I've made multiple points. You probably ignored it b/c they didn't focus on Neal or Malkin. Every once in a while I consider it a PSA to help a misguided soul learn that hockey is a team sport and not revolve around 1 or 2 players. Consider yourself lucky and informed.

Its really unhealthy if you care more than the players do, and clearly, some folks on here do.

 It's hockey, dude. The whole thing is fantasy land, win or lose.

Tell that to Lemieux.

Lemieux owns the team. He's financially invested. He's worn the uniform.

Unless someone is hiding behind a screen name, NONE OF US have laced up the skates for the Penguins. We merely enjoy (and I use that term lightly) watching the team play. We're fans. We have 0 control over the game.

Some people treat this like whether or not the Pens win determines if said person lives or dies after the game. THAT is unhealthy.

Fandom is on some level emotional and irrational. Sports exists because they're able to convince people like me to make an emotional and financial attachment a) to an event in which I have no control, and b) to athletes who likely wouldn't pee on me if I were on fire. It's not a bad thing to react emotionally, and if venting about the shortcomings on a message board is how I or others react, so be it.

Just pointing out they know what they're doing wrong, but aren't executing.

If you read (present, not past tense) the Bylsma thread, you'd see why I posted that.

Vindicated.

Cheers. It always gets me when someone starts to rip into people for getting emotional since obviously nothing we say can change anything. Duh. But we're fans of a team and we spend time talking about the team on a message board. I know that in the big picture this stuff doesn't matter. I have plenty of other things going for me in life. Life doesn't begin and end with the Pens for me. But I've been a fan for a long time, it means something to me, it's been one of my favorite things since I was a child. I have pride in the city, especially since I don't live there anymore. So with all that, of course there's going to be a emotional interest in it. When things go as badly as they have the last two games, we're going to go off. These are some ugly moments. This is a debacle, some terrible blown leads against a hated rival. This is one of those lows that makes the highs better. Hopefully we don't have to wait too long for another Cup high but this year ain't looking like it's going to be.

That's all I got tonight folks. In my heart, I know this series is over. As a fan, I'll watch the ship sink. I'm surely not going to give up on the team now, but I'm realistic. Hopefully they fix what is wrong with them and in a year we're on a run towards making all these kinds of moments worth sticking through. These last two seasons have had a lot of ugliness to them, with the injuries and the playoff collapses. Hopefully, better times ahead with concussions behind us and many more years of some of these great players to look forward to.

Gotcha. That being said... no player is going to say in the middle of the playoffs that their system doesn't work. But it's clear that execution is lacking. Unless DB's system is "kind of just hang out in this general area," execution is lacking regardless of how genius or terrible the system is.

Good night all, thanks for the hockey talk. Enjoy it, we are a week away from being done watching for a while (at least with a pens interest).

Flyers playing without 3 of their top 6 Dmen. Also playing without JVR. Pens are healthier than they've been all year.

Philly is a real good team and the winner of this series could easily get to the finals, but what a wasted year it would be for "the core" and the window they have whilst in their primes. No guarantee we'll ever be this healthy next postseason.

Hats off to Flyers though, they have been better than us all year. This isn't a fluke or luck or an accident. They blew up their core, got tons of rookies, and are playing without 50% of their starting D. They look like the better team and deserve to be up 2-0. We are focused on our team and our problems but it's not our god given right to win playoff games. They get paid too.
