Not happy it was Z instead of Martin but this clears up a ton more cap space. If it means Parise then I'm ok.

Wow something is up that's for sure. If not Parise, then who?

Dreger and Hrdek have both mentioned Parise, as well as the Pens possibly going after Ryan Suter.

Pierre McGuire (who openly predicted both draft picks) said the pens were going after ZP, too. right after the staal trade. it seems like a perfect fit.

I guess this means we're stuck with Paul Martin for another year.

Will miss Z...best of luck.
Shero has decided to blow up the team...
for a chance at another superstar.
Which one, we don't know yet...but Parise or Suter have to be in play at this point.

Both maybe. $14 million is a lot of cap room.

They'd still have to trade Martin to make it work.

But we only have 19 players signed. One big salary and some fillers.

Parise will command a lot of money in the open market. Same with Suter. It will be one or the other or neither.

Paul Martin to Nashville for the negotiating rights to Ryan Suter. Clears 5 mil off the books, lets Pens go up to 5-6mil for Suter, and still have room for Parise since we cleared 4 mil a year off the books from Michalek. Pens defense:
Letang
Suter
Orpik
Niskanen
Depres
Engelland
Bortuzzo
That is a damn solid top 4, and the bottom 3 is not horrible.

Pretty sure that would have made the trade worse, seeing as what they're obviously doing.

agreed, but I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of people going out... GMRS really is blowing it up IMO

Disappointing it's basically a salary dump. This is like Shero's revenge for the playoff performance.

They don't really want or need a roster player back at this point.

Out:
Staal, 4mil
Michalek, 4mil
In:
Sutter, 2mil
6mil in cap space gained.
Dump Paul Martin anywhere for something, picks, pucks, and the Pens have 11mil in cap space gained. No reason they could not get Parise AND Suter with that much space.

Roughly how much will Parise and Suter demand on the open market?
