Here's the question. Say we acquire the rights to Suter and sign him. This may take us out of the Parise sweepstakes. Bobby Ryan has fallen out of favor in Anaheim, his contract is similar to Neal's, he is friends with Sid, and say you give up Orpik, Despres and something else......you think that could be done? The Pens with Suter, Ryan and Sutter are a much better team than the Pens with Orpik and Staal.

I don't really see the need to add another big-name scoring winger. Certainly an upgrade from Dupuis for Sid on his line would be nice, but Parise is too much. Would much rather have Suter.

Contrary to rumors, tho, PIT management told me there are no plans to deal for Suter/Parise rights pre-July 1. Will take chances July 1.

Pens can't get Suter after getting Sutter while employing Steiggy. It would be just too hard.

Guess that means at least one of the two (most likely Parise) are a done deal.

Let's Go Pens!!! In Shero We Trust!!!

I'd rather have Parise. If it was Weber, that'd be one thing. I don't think Suter is really worth a massive contract.

Weber = offense
Suter = defense

No surprise that in small looks Weber woos the eye more...Suter would be better for us.

As I mentioned on twitter, it won't matter, Steigy will just end up calling Sutter, "Eric Staal" anyways.

Weber = offense, but Weber also = big, tough, edgy, nasty. Very much a la Chris Pronger. A major impact player in all zones.

Suter? I could be way off base but he just strikes me as a better version Paul Martin. Doesn't really stand out in any area. Not huge. Not tough. Average numbers. Touted for his first pass and his "little things."

Not saying he wouldn't be an excellent pick-up, just leery about throwing him a massive contract.

Weber not as good defensively as Pronger, not even close. He has an edge, sure, but you have to give up assets to get him AND pay him more than Suter. Just to add another offensive defenseman. No babysitter in Pittsburgh for him, like he had in Suter.

I know, I don't think Weber is a realistic option for the Pens, was just using him as an example of a guy I'd pony up for, by way of contrast with Suter, who I'm not as high on.

Yeah, Weber's defensive game still lacks maturity, in my opinion.

If salaries were $7.5 for Weber and $6.5 for Suter, I'd probably prefer Suter's superior defense with the offense he still brings to the table to Weber's superior offense (shot) and the undisciplined defensive game he brings to the table.

and for the record, the last time the reports talked about a free agent being down to either the Pens or the Wings, they signed with the Flyers.

14.66 million in cap space.

1. Trade Martin
2. Trade Lovejoy
3. You have roughly 19 million in cap space (Not sure of the return for Martin so let's say around 19 million with Lovejoy gone as well.
4. Sign Suter for 7 million
5. Sign Parise for 7.5 million
6. you have 4.5 million left
7. Profit

With the Pens finally having all this cap room and with the 3 center model being blown up, If THEY STILL DON'T GET CROSBY HIS WINGER AFTER GENO GETTING NEAL, i would just walk. If i'm Sid and they still don't do right by me and i'm willing to take 9 million per, i just give them the bird and leave the city.

Hell Yes. I know Latendresse said he wants to stay in Minny, but I would loooooooove for the Pens to grab him for the right price.

I'm sure that's exactly how it would go down.

The obvious note here is that if they do target a winger for Sid, he has to agree to play in Pittsburgh. Pens can target 53 scoring wingers for Sid and still be left with nothing.

Well, all indications are that Sid and Parise are talking like mad and Parise and Crosby really wanna play together. These two are like a match made in heaven. I'm all for solidifying your blue line but if suddenly you don't have a unhappy/gone Crosby, then you have much bigger problems.
