To me the key point for Shero is "knowing" that Crosby+Malkins next salary jump is only a 600K increase. To me, that is amazing and if true means the Penguins can afford really whoever they want for the near future considering the cap is suppose to increase upwards of a few million. It's not like our hands would be tied either. Say we sign Parise to a ~$7 for 6 years, if we run into cap problems that is not an untradeable contract.

Yeah, I'm starting to get this "slam dunk" vibe as well. I'm trying not to get my hopes up because we've all seen how fervid speculation often comes to nothing. We'll see.

Furthermore, it's not going to be a big disaster if the Pens fail to land Parise (or Suter for that matter). Even as is, I think they have a solid team and cap flexibility is a good thing to have in your back pocket.

Our fears are the same, I understand wanting to bolster the D, but if Suter makes his intentions known to go to a Western Conference team ,which seems to be the current rumor, and if we are on Parise's short list. How do you not make Parise your primary target?

With the cap set at $70,300,000...and with teams able to spend a certain amount over during the Summer...there is plenty to sign both. The key here is, 'do either of them want to play in Pittsburgh'?
