QFT. There is no doubt we need a guy that has his exact skills. Big, physical, bomb of a shot. Locks up the other teams talent.

I have been. He's insanely good.

That's cool. I confess to not having seen him a ton, and his numbers are pretty sick.

This year I wouldn't mind RS tossing out something for Parise's rights if there's interest there. That way we have a week to find out if he will sign. If not, you go after Semin on July 1.

To me the key point for Shero is "knowing" that Crosby+Malkins next salary jump is only a 600K increase. To me, that is amazing and if true means the Penguins can afford really whoever they want for the near future considering the cap is suppose to increase upwards of a few million. It's not like our hands would be tied either. Say we sign Parise to a ~$7 for 6 years, if we run into cap problems that is not an untradeable contract.

Yeah I agree. I just don't see NJ giving a divisional team any upper hand on parise.

All I know is, if they grab Parise, they must keep Malkin with Sid on the #1 PP at least until they lock up Malkin after this season.

Here at NHL Draft hearing Suter is going to sign with Detroit and Parise will go to Penguins #Flyers

Randy Miller ‏@RandyJMiller
Apparently Crosby sat with Parise's family in a suite for multiple games during Stanley Cup Final #Flyers

Also I think Parise might have a little bit of LeBron syndrome. He literally just lost in the Cup finals and he might want to win now. Can DET, MIN offer that now, or in the near future? Either way this plays out I don't see him signing with a non-contender.

That's pretty interesting. However, after the whole Jagr debacle last summer, I'm never going to count any chickens until the deals are done.

This reminds me of when kovalev was definitely coming to pittsburgh after the lockout ..... all his buddies here .... talks for weeks ..... and then he re-upped with montreal.

Ziggy Palfy is the only time where a player I really liked became a Pen and caused me to hate him in the end.

Yeah, I'm starting to get this "slam dunk" vibe as well. I'm trying not to get my hopes up because we've all seen how fervid speculation often comes to nothing. We'll see.

Furthermore, it's not going to be a big disaster if the Pens fail to land Parise (or Suter for that matter). Even as is, I think they have a solid team and cap flexibility is a good thing to have in your back pocket.

Plus the PP is and has been a mess, only seems Parise would cause more mass confusion! That said ... I still say .... SIGN HIM!!!! Can you decline penalties?

The PP was fantastic last year. They don't need anymore triggermen. Crosby, Malkin, Neal, Letang are all extraordinary shooters.

Yeah, it was great .... unitl Crosby came back. He and Malkin need to somehow, someway ... figure out how to work together. The three shorthanders against philly were awful.

bob m from tsn saying pens more interested in suter than parise

"I assumed when PIT made big moves to clear cap space, it was for a run at UFA Parise but it seems UFA Suter is more likely primary target."

I really hope shero knows what he is doing. i can see suter completely blowing us off for a team in the west like the wings, and hopefully that does not put us an hour too late to get parise come july 1st.

Our fears are the same, I understand wanting to bolster the D, but if Suter makes his intentions known to go to a Western Conference team ,which seems to be the current rumor, and if we are on Parise's short list. How do you not make Parise your primary target?

Parise and Suter are exclusive of each other. The cap space is there to sign both regardless of Martin. They won't miss out on signing one of them by waiting for the other to agree to a deal.

With the cap set at $70,300,000...and with teams able to spend a certain amount over during the Summer...there is plenty to sign both. The key here is, 'do either of them want to play in Pittsburgh'?
