So what's fair market value of ZP? $7M $8M $9M??? ... if I was GMRS I would not go over $7.5M... would rather give Suter $5.5M... too bad Weber is restricted cause he is Sid's bud and could wisely spend some of that coin on him

That's a good question. I would love to have Parise playing on Sid's wing, but at this point I would rather have a solid d-man. Off the top of my head, I think we were at or near the top of the league in scoring. And that was without Sid for most of the season. After losing Michalek and hopefully losing Martin I would hope we would shell out some ducketts on a shut down d man.

I wouldn't flinch at $7M.
They can afford it under the cap....and, hey, it's not out of my bank account.

From everything that's been said, Suter wants to stay out west. Obviously a lot of this is second hand information, but going hard after Suter means nothing if he doesn't want to play here, and throwing 5.5 at him is probably underpayment for what he'll get.
I think a realistic offer for Parise is anywhere from $7-8, probably on the lower end, and hope Crosby doesn't command too much more. If I'm Sid and the Penguins still have ~$15 million in extra cap room and I'm stuck playing with Dupuis and another old-man-on-a-two-year-deal projects next season, I'm sure as **** cashing in.

Suter will cost in excess of 7 million at the very least.

He won't be here then, I can't see the pens going above 7 and that would be on a long term deal, 7years plus.

Why would he get more than AO, Malkin or Crosby. That is just asinine.

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/opinion ... ughts.html9. Have always believed Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson's best opportunity to deal Rick Nash will be after Parise's decision. Think some other
teams hoped their first-round picks would really appeal to Columbus, but that wasn't the case. My guess is that Nash and Bobby Ryan, if Anaheim wants to do it, get dealt after Parise signs. If Pittsburgh doesn't get Parise, Nash makes sense -- assuming it has what the Blue Jackets want.
I'd be willing to offer up to 7.8 mil/year to Parise (Rick Nash Money), he cannot and will not make more than Sid. If he wants to chase the dollar good luck in Minnesota or Toronto.

This puts them both near highest cap hit in the league among players at their positions. Seems a bit much given the CBA uncertainty.

Minny would do it, he's from there and he'd be their franchise player.

So the highest cap hit in the league among defensemen?
Possible, considered a top-10 d-man in the league, career-best season, young UFA, top-10 draft pick, cap is the highest it's ever been, and the second best prize is Jason Garrison or Dennis Wideman...all the makings of a big pay day for Suter.

He's a UFA in a market that is severly lacking in talent. The pens obviously will not offer him more than Sid or Geno, so you are looking at 8 mil or so for Shero's best offer.

All three of those guys signed contracts over 4 years ago. The cap has almost doubled since then.

The contracts of these free agents are put even more in perspective by Crosby and Malkin. Everyone is saying Crosby is gonna sign for 10 years/90 million. Do you have any idea how lucky we are to have a captain like this who is willing to leave huge chunks of money on the table for the betterment of the team? Crosby could hit up the Pens for as much as 14.06 million if he wanted to.
I think the chances of Parise coming to the Pens is VERY STRONG but he will have to leave money on the table just like Crosby and if the rumors are true the Minny wants to go for cap max with Parise, he will be leaving nearly double the salary on the table to play here. That being said, Minny is a mess and the Pens are gold in comparison.
