i guess a different take is this. if sid were to be hurt and have to retire at some point during the contract, his cap hit is gone correct? whether or not the pens are on the hook for the dough or not. it's kinda two separate issues.

I think he would have to be put on LTIR for the cap hit to be gone, if i am not correct. Several teams do that now with some players. Either way the player still gets paid and there is more money to spend on availible players in UFA so the NHLPA is happy. Not sure how the rules are on forced retirement.

Twitter was hilarious last night... everything from "Cindy Crysby is greedy" to "his career could be over with one good hit". When you check locations, all from Flyers fans. Further proof that, even when the annihilate us in a playoff series, Sid still owns the Flyers.

First off, 87 is everything you want in a leader, and this contract pounds home that point once again. It was rumored he'd make close to 9 mil per, but nobody honestly knew.

For him to not take a pay raise is absolutely unreal. There was nothing stopping him from saying, "How about 7 years, 70 mil?", where the cap hit would have been much worse. It will be interesting to see what Malkin agrees too now as well.

I firmly believe they can get some top notch free agents at reasonable prices. I hear numbers being thrown out for Parise and Suter by some on this board, but I'm just not sure a team like Minnesota will offer Parise 9 mil per. If they do that, they truly limit themselves with what they can do, and Minnesota needs much more help than 1 player.

It will be interesting to see, but I have a pretty good feeling about what is about to take place on Sunday.

In a world where we bash players when they chase the dollar, Crosby is being bashed for taking less and "lowering the bar" for other players?

Sidney Crosby literally cannot win, no matter what he does. It's risky, it's too long, it's not enough, blah blah blah blah blah...

It's so tiring to listen to. This is a mega contract, over $100 million for Christ's sake.

Just to put it in perspective, Sid, as long as he is healthy, will be a Penguin until I'm 47. I like that.

Pens cant insure Sids contract against concussions (sorry if the was posted someplace else).

- Not sure if this is too huge of a deal. Although it wont count against the cap the Pens eating almost $9 million per year if they still spend to the cap will have to hurt. The article is pretty good but (and please I am not knocking him at all) but I really dont think just because Burkle is a gazilionare twelve times over doesnt mean they will just be able to eat the money, spend to the cap and everything fine. Not knocking them, just reality.


- That being said its only not insured against concussions. If "and it is a big if" all they are saying is correct and concussions were not the major problem then him having a career ending concussion injury would be really crappy luck.

- All that being said I still think its a contract the Pens had to do, especially at that rate. It will really be a bargain in 5 years hopefully

Report on Twitter by Dreger saying Crosby contract is front loaded, $11 million per year average first 9 years.

I know I should know this but does that have anything to do with our cap or is it a complete average over the years so we still end up at $8.7 per year.....I think that is the case?

I just ask cause I remember the league having an issue with this type of deal to lower the cap hit.

Anyways, if true, and I dont see why it wouldnt be makes a bit more sense for Sid.
